I'm heading up to the Microbrew and Music festival up in Traverse City after work. Plus it's my friends birthday (HI MITCH), so I plan on making sure he gets extra drunk tonight.
OT: Friday POSBANG/open thread
reporting Cam Cameron and LSU working on deal to become new OC per Bryan Fisher twitter feed
A group of us went up to the Microbrew and Music festival last year and it was an awesome time. Sounds stupid, but I highly recommened The Silent Disco! Everyone gets wireless headphones and there are real DJ's. Its hallarious.
I'll have to check that out, thanks! I'll make sure to have someone to get a video of it too.
If cost isn't a big issue on the gift, I suggest splurge and get him the more costly one. I can't remember one time I've been sorry opting for nicer when gift giving when it comes to parents!
Oh, and would someone please (pos)bang me this afternoon? I'm doing some end-of-week projects that are pretty stressful!
They say (pos)banging reduces stress, so hopefully it'll do you good. Thanks for the input!
I've heard it feels like a sneeze when you get (pos)banged, but it wasn't like that at all. Much more ... enjoyable.
Is it natural that I now crave a cigarette (even though I don't smoke)?
I'm writing a piece for TTB that will blow your f***ing minds.
Okay, it might not. But the first part of that sentence is accurate.
I wanted to have it done by tomorrow morning, but that may not happen. It might be up on Sunday morning. It's a long one (that's what she said).
Sorry, but even in a posbang, it's not socially acceptable to TWSS yourself
ETA, dammit. Must...waste...time...
I'll settle for a girl pic that will blow my f$ing mind, Magnus.
We got pounded last night. Sent my UTV/plow rig in for routine service a couple days ago - what the hell was I thinking? It's supposed to be here in a little bit - have 700' of driveway to do before poker game at 6:30.
Might enjoy a Crown on ice whilst cleaning up the snow.
I was on midcurrent.com and this was the first thing I saw. Thought I would post it after I saw your user pic.
Read the gateslodge.com fishing report to try to get a fix from downstate. Doesn't sound like the fishing is much, but the pics are (as always) good.
That place looks awesome. Have you fished it before?
Visit Gates Lodge, stay there or camp at Burtons or Keystone and buy a few flies from the shop in exchange for advice on the day. Be humble and understand they know more than you and they'll set you straight. I especially like the streamer fishing in March and chucking giant wake-making things in the middle of August nights.
is responsible for one of two of the flies in the shop - by all means go lose some flies!
I live for trout. And steelhead - they're why I left A2 for West Mich.
Never caught a steelhead. I plan on making it up to Oregon maybe the Rogue River. If all goes as planned I will be up there in November.
that's a special place. There's so much beautiful water in OR, you could spend a lifetime knocking around. I was lucky enough to spend a couple years kicking around Oregon and SW Washington, basically living like an animal while steelhead-bumming. Buddies of mine "worked" at Steamboat and Telluride, partying and chasing ski-bunnies - I was alone skating dry flies and self-teaching spey fishing, drinking Rainier and poking at campfires on a hundred different gravel bars.
It's a weird addiction.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. Found the artist's website. Would make a perfect gift for my Dad, the consummate fisherman.
derekdeyoung.com I'm a fan.
I'm an attorney. I just filed a motion in one of my cases. Fifteen minutes later I was informed that the hearing date I had chosen is President's Day., so I have to re-do all the paperwork.
Classic. But it'll never beat my bonehead first-year mistake. We sent out a notice of bar date to all creditors of a bankrupt debtor (thousands!!) that had the wrong date - it was January of the next year and I put the current year instead. The notices all had to be resent. Probably cost $1000s. Oops! The funny thing is that the partners weren't even that upset.
fresh out of law school back in the Ellerbee days, and he said that there is no mistake that cannot be corrected. So no worries.
5 inches of snow here, kids had snow day, made some white chocolate popcorn...laundry did not get done.
Im a teacher in Detroit and we had a snow day. What was planned on being a day of lesson preps turned into a day of netflix and looking at houses for sale in Detroit. Its amazing some of the mansions that are available for under 100k
I'm doing some work now and going up north with some friends to go skiing. Hopefully we're going to stop by Short's for some dinner/beer tomorrow night. Should be a good time.
Listening to my boss (U of I grad) gloat over their victory over the Hoosiers.
If your dad is like mine, he'd prefer the utilitarian option. My dad also doesn't like people to spend money on him. If I want to pay for dinner when we go out, it becomes a death match to snag the check from his 84 year old fingers.
As for today, I'm spending the snow day with my son and his friend at Airtime Trampoline Park in Troy.
And will be celebrating Michigan's return to #1 in 24 hours!
It is easy. Before the check comes excuse your self from the table and go pay for the dinner.
Go to the bathroom and dodge the check, Larry David style!
Go to the bathroom, don't return to the table, and then three days later announce publicly that you've accepted the University of Cincinnati job. Tommy Tuberville style!
Working, but it's been a relatively straightforward week. I live in a condo, so no shovels to speak of. Plus we only got 2" where I live in the city of Chicago. Coordinating plans for drinks tonight... that's about it. Oh, and watching GIFs because Ace doesn't want me to be productive
My toddler caught a cold from preschool and he infected me, my wife, and both of my parents who were visiting this past weekend. He is now doing great after a few days of feeling miserable and I'm headed to the doctor to get a f-ing antibiotic. Preschool germs are tremendously horrendous.
Wait, if he got a cold and gave it to you (viral), what in the world would an antibiotic do?
Great question. For some reason, my body does not take well to toddler viruses and they always turn into secondary UR infections. So, I've got that going for me, which is nice. First time I've been on an antibiotic this school year though. Last year, five f-ing times. And I'm supposedly healthy.
I found out today that a lady at work has a sick toddler. I will be avoiding her like the plague for the rest of the day.
I have a toddler and two school-aged kids at home running aroung hacking, sneezing, and dripping snot. I am 6 months post kidney transplant and on a cocktail of immunosuppressant drugs. I am hoping to avoid the inevitable.
O boy...unless you can live in a plastic bubble and prepare food in a completely seperate space from your family with food that was completely seperated from your family...good luck...seriously
I have pretty much resolved to spending my winter months in a perpetual state of illness, but it beats the hell out of dialysis.
Hang in there, Profit. By the time he/she gets to kindergarten, they hardly bring home any viruses at all. Instead, it's head lice you'll be dealing with. I live in the highest income school district in A-2 and we have the highest incidence of head lice in the whole damn town!
We had the pleasure of dropping $350 at the Repunzel Lice Boutique in December. Worth every penny.
Things really lighten up by middle school. I have one there, and he never brings anything home. The little germ factories are just building up their immune systems!
I did okay when my daughter was in pre-school but she started kindergarten this fall and man, those elementary schools are like little mini hot-zones. At least one person in our household has been sick for as far back as I can remember. Anything that doesn't kill you, right?
I live in St Louis and we don't have any of that white stuff on the ground here, so I'm going for a (cold) bike ride tomorrow. Should be refreshing!
Waiting for this endless day to end. I officialy got hired on at work today (after 90days) and I am leaving tomorrow for Ann Arbor for my son's bday! WHOOP!
Sounds like a good day. Congrats!
On the job and the trip to AA
Congratulations! See, reading MGoBlog does wonders for employment. You may never get any work done but your grammar will be great! Brian should use that in his advertising.
Last night I wondered aloud if I had incorrectly used "There's" instead of They are. My 12 year old says, "ooooo, mom, they'll get you on that!"
I love it. Keeps me on my toes...
Now this is an uplifting status. Safe travels and good luck on the new gig.
I finally gave up my annual fight against Winter. I just bought a new set of downhill skis this week and am excited to use them tommorrow. I haven't gone skiing in about 20 years. It looks like I will get some use out of them over the next several weeks.
It hardly snowed in Ann Arbor, and besides, I work remotely from my Michigan decorated office at home. So I could be snowed in and would still have to work. So I'm grumpy today. Congrats to the lucky ones who have today and to all the east coasters, please be safe.
Trying to studying for an EECS 270 exam but too busy alerting my friends they are in a "Rapture Guy" gif on mgoblog
EECS 314 was the bane of my senior year. Why anyone would voluntarily study EECS is beyond me.
/Mechanical engineers ftw. Wanna start a flame war? EMP and my trebuchet still works...
/All in good fun. EECS was SO not for me, but we need you EECS guys around.
I second that EECS 314 was the worst. Probably two main reasons for that...
1) No one taking it gave a shit about EECS
2) Rumor had it that whichever professor in the EECS department receive the worst reviews from the EECS students had to teach the class. Based on my single data point, that is 100% true.
I do have to give that class credit though, it was responsible for one of my greatest college traditions: skipping class on Friday afternoon to drink 40's with my best friend before we'd go into work.
you know RAPTURE GUY?????? or overall girl?????? or just the supporting cast???
Trying to studying for an EECS 270 exam but too busy alerting my friends they are in a "Rapture Guy" gif on mgoblog
Is there a password to get into the posbang?
Bend over and we'll show you
Beat wiscy. Classes cancelled today so killing the day rewatching the ohio game!
Chillin..hookah lounge later with some friends. maybe snort coke and shoot up some heroin but not classy enough
classy enough to ride the white pony.
Posbang, you say? I think I went to one of these back in my college days. If this is the same as that, I'm up for it! There were so many prostitutes at that party. I had the time of my life. The aftermath was allegedly messy but I can't remember anything so its all good. Allegedly.
Did Craig James happen to be the host ?if so i understand the messy aftermath
typing a lot and erasing so my boss thinks i am typing an email
1) If your office supports it, walk around in a hurry with some papers in your hands. Good mid-day cardio.
2) Open up a document and slowly scroll through it, as if reading. Switch back to non-work when shoulder-surfers leave.
3) Mad scientist look, when you put your elbows on your desk and bottoms of your palms just over your eyebrows, with fingers curled over the top of your head. Take quick nap.
4) Check work phone voicemail over and over again.
5) Open a very long or dense file and start changing stuff, only to cancel the save at the end (risky, though).
6) General mean-muggin'. Come at me with your tasking, I dare you.
In addition to what Run The Football said, if you have a system at work that displays tons of charts and updates every so often automatically, always leave that open and, as people walk by, switch to it and stare at it intently. For me, where I work, the tab that always accompanies MGoBlog in Explorer (*insert all Explorer-related complaints here*) is the outage duration and case listings screen. The only problem is that I will actually have to start producing these root cause analysis and reliability graphs that I said I was working on.
Just got back from a run. Looking forward to a good night!
MGoClimb: what kind of climbing are you in to?
I've done some 14ers in Colorado, as well as Mount Rainier twice via different routes. My avatar is from the first when we were climbing in 60+ mph winds.
Well I'll be jiggered. I've very recently gotten into climbing, and as a challenge to myself to keep doing it, I've set goals for myself to do the Grand Teton and Rainier
We got Bin Laden!!!!!!
What is he, some kind of sleeper recruit? I don't see him listed on Rivals or Scout. I hope the coaches know what they are doing with all these under-the-radar types.
Hopefully Meyer doesn't go after him.
leaving for a week in Florida tomorrow morning. go blue.
Here for the Posbang. I brought chips
The GF and I have exhausted much of the beach activity after a week in Hawai'i. We will probably check out the Pearl Harbor exhibit this afternoon.
Take the tour that takes you out to the USS Arizona. Very somber, very historic...something every American should see.
cousin I never met.
RIP, S2c T. Simmons - USS California (MIA)
I'm getting Mexican food tonight!
Just got back to Madison, WI from the U.P. My arse is sore from the drive. Lots of vehicles in the snow north of Green Bay....looked like a war zone with vehicles littered in the median and in the ditch.
Now on to stubhub for another glance at tickets for tomorrow's game. My front row seats fell through, so now I'm in panic mode. Time to crack a bottle of Founder's to aid my search.
Four day weekend at the one and only Hope College. Thank God for winter break.
Go blue, beat Wisconsin! (Also, Go Hope, beat Calvin)
Did you by any chance go to HCHS?
Haha, I figured between the Hope thing and your username you had to have gone there. If you are who I think you are then I'm one of your brother's friends from school. He told me you had an account on this blog.
Screw that, beat Hope!
I went back to Cali to my old stomping grounds, then went to Las Vegas for the birthday now i'm just relaxing till i head back home to Florida on Sunday
Cali? Lots of good craft brew all over the state.
My workday ends in about 30 minutes or so, but it would be fair to say that I spent some of that day right here on MGoBlog. I actually thought about not coming into work today, especially after nearly slipping twice while shoveling the driveway at 6:30 AM this morning - we had quite a bit of sleet and ice in the downriver area, but then I wouldn't be able to generate the reports that no one really reads (I am that guy).
If I accomplished anything, however, it was getting a comparison of Michigan and Wisconsin stats together for tomorrow and getting all the data for my next diary - a general survey of Wolverine football freshman and their positions and geographic origins for the past 45 years. I also survived two meetings and all on a bag of Ruffles and a Vernors, so all in all, a nice, uneventful Friday.
For tomorrow, beat the Badgers! Go Blue!
1: Anyone got any good beer suggestions for tonights drinking thread? I have some Bells Best Brown but I am in the mood for something a little more adventurous.
2: Im looking for a place to move to when my lease is up. Somewhere between Ann Arbor and Detroit and close to highway access. Im going to be looking for a new job in SE MI and would like to be centrally located within an hrs drive to most places. Any suggestions on where to look?
What kind of work are you looking for?
Secondary education. Right now I teach in DPS but want to go somewhere more suburban for next year. It would also be nice to be close to EMU and U of M for grad school in next 2 years
90 min or 120 min Dogfish Head. Not my personal fav IPA, but its adventurous and lots of people think its the bomb.
I can never find 120 min because it is always sold out. Does anywhere have it right now?
We always have it in Maryland.
However, it's $9.99 a bottle. If you drive out to Rehoboth Beach to the Dogfishhead brewpub, they have it on tap for like $8. It's more like a bitter barley-wine (ABV is anywhere from 15-22%)
Stick with Hopslam, or Founder's Double Trouble if you can find it.
Im still at work; just finished dictating, need to call back a few more patients. Then off to get our Berner from dog daycare.
Whenever a store gets it in the suburbs of Detroit, 120 minute sells out within hours. I suppose it is kind of a trade off because we can get Bells Oberon all summer which people in most states cannot
Finish overhauling the master bathroom.
Counter top is in after pulling the cabinets out 3" to accomodate the oversized top.
Sink holes are cut.
Walls and ceiling are painted.
Re-route the electrical from a wall mounted light to a ceiling mounted light.
Install new sinks and faucets.
Lay down some carpeting.
Then get to work installing my new HD overhead projector into the basement and begin work on an over-hauled man cave.
State of Emergency in MA, everyone is banned from driving in 18 minutes. Drinking all the things.
Good thing it only takes 17 minutes to make the beer run to 7-Eleven and back, eh?
got a Facebook update that San Diego Brewing Co. has Alpine Beer Co's, "Bad Boy" on tap. They only brew out a couple times/year, and its super delish. Therefore i will be drinking that tonight. For now, i am selling stuff and crushing my competition.
Hope to get a lot done in the next couple hours. Don't mind that we didn't get hit with the snow on the East Coast!
Kicking back with a few brews and watching Nemo rip through NYC tonight and tomorrow.
I got three kids and a bossy wife man. Pinot and painkillers and Monday can't get here quick enough.
I hope this is me in a few days. My wife is due with our first anyday now.
The best of luck to you Bombadil...all hopes for a healthy and beautiful boy/girl.
I'd say the important thing is 10 fingers and 10 toes but a friend not too long ago gave birth to an adorable little boy with 6 fingers on one hand....so.....yeah
We will be anxiously awaiting the Hello :Baby Bombadil post.
So...I've never done one of these posbangs...how does it work?
I mean do I...do you...WAIT WAIT WAIT I said it was my first time!!!
Michigan vs Notre Dame, six big points on the line this weekend.
Already thread on it, disregard
She had to meet the chef and sample the food for her reception. She is out with friends, but we visited the Beer Baron earlier and put together a couple of mixed 6 packs. I think it is going to be a New Holland Dragon's Milk and a Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron for me tonight.
Wine, fire, and waiting for UofM to beat the Sh*t out of Wisconson tomorrow!
