OT: Friday Open Thread about whatever

Submitted by JeepinBen on

That time of the week. Did we even have one last week? I was too busy going America all over everybody.

Anyway there's plenty of actual football talk elsewhere, from the Pac12 wussing out to the PSU fallout, I've really liked the recent either/or questions on the board, so here's some potential discussion topics for this summer Friday:

1. Mustang or Camaro? (Or Challenger for you Mopar folks. Open ended - classics, new, etc)

2. Strawberry or Grape on your PB&J?

3. Follow up to 2: Chunky or smooth PB?

4. SNL Halcyon 1 or 2? (Original cast, Belushi, Akroyd, Chevy,  etc vs. Sandler, Rock, Farley, etc)

5. Most overrated movie of the last 20 years?

Happy Friday everyone. And don't forget we're only  Days from the start of the season

because the scores are higher up here. Feel free to cut behind. Lately I have been trying to plan my coolest stuff to do on Fridays, thanks to this feature. I had nothing today until I got an early morning call from a friend I don't know well at all- haven't seen in three years. He needed a ride home from the hospital after heart surgery. I was glad to help, but I hope I never get to the point when I am having heart surgery and no one cares enough to take me home. So right now I am happy that I don't need heart surgery, happy that I have people who would care if I did, and glad to have work to keep me busy even when I would rather be killing time on the blog. Is there a Life is Good shirt for all of that?

1 - I do not like Ford but I really like the new Mustangs. I also like the new Camaros. I would have to go with Camaro since they are a little more rare on the road right now.

2 - Homemade blackberry jam...yum.

3 - Smooth all the way.

4 - Any of that older SNL...the last few years' SNL casts have not been anywhere as good as the older casts.

5 - Avatar...good but not great, IME. It doesn't deserve as much hype as it gathers.

Definitely ready to go home. This work week has been really slow it seems.

In San Diego for vacation. Not at Comic Con but hoping to see some strange birds. I'm on West Coast and looking to get the drinking started early. My apologies to those at work.

My sister actually is at Comic Con, complete with her own booth - she's a freelance illustrator working with a couple studios. She tried to call me from the lobby earlier (because leaving your stuff unattended in a conference hall filled with tens of thousands ends well), but she mentioned something about Stormtroopers and the phone cut out. Hope she's OK. I don't know how I explain that one to my parents.

Barracuda with 440 six pack

Grape jelly

Chunky

Sandler et al

Superbad - I couldn't make it through the first half hour.  Stupid, just stupid.  And Titanic, holy crap that movie was horrible.

Well, it's been basically a true-to-life Friday the 13th here at work between customer complaints and very strange new business calls, so these questions are an excellent distraction:

1) Coming from a Chevrolet family,  my dad actually has a 1968 Camaro SS - white with red interior - with a 6-speed Hurst manual (custom), and the 396 cu. V-8. It's mine whenever...well...you get the idea.

2) Grape.

3) Oddly enough, it depends on my mood. Today, being a trying day, is definitely a "chunky" day.

4) For the topicality of the humor alone (one of SNL's strong points in its heyday, I have always thought), the first generation cast.

5) Overrated film in the last twenty years? I'll go with a big-money example in "Titanic", which had good effects for 1997, but the story was so elementary that, in the end, you just want Captain Smith to just say it - "I'm gonna sink this bitch."

1. Camaro

2. Strawberry Jam

3. Smooth

4. 2, Farley (RIP) was one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen, plus it was back when Adam Sandler was still funny.

5. Superbad. I have given it a few chances, and I did not funny what so ever.

Haha. I get that a lot. My college roommates thought I was crazy.  I picked it up from my old man growing up.  I usually go with something like cheerios, kix, honey nut cheerios, or life.  I think the best is Cap n' crunch.  I usually just scoop the PB out with a spoon, retrieve it from the spoon with my mouth, "blop" it on the cereal, repeat.  Some think this is "gross," but I'm a 23 year old male who drinks out of the milk carton and has his hand down his pants too often. You can't contain this beast.

Also, throw some banana in that cereal.

1. Never really cared about cars. Just give me good gas mileage or a motorcycle

2. Strawberry. Easy.

3. Chunky. Smooth is boring

4. Sandler, Farley etc. Haven't seen a ton of the original cast and such as I was born in the 80s.

5. One of Avatar, Titanic, or Slumdog Millionaire. The first was long and nothing special except for special effects. You would think that a movie that takes 10 years to make would have a more original storyline. Never understood the appeal of Titanic. Leo was a terrible actor back then IMO. Slumdog was just hyped and hyped to me and when I finally saw it, I just thought "it was good, but not great". Thought there were some much better other films that year.

I care about cars, I just can't see me ever making the investment in a classic/muscle car when you can buy a motorcycle for ten grand that will destroy anything on the road.  I do understand the draw of the classic hot rods, I just can't justify the money or time to build one right.  The great thing about bikes is you get the performance and MPG!

That'll leave a mark!  I never said anything about SAFER.  It's generally not a good idea to go that fast in a high traffic area or on a public street in general.  We have a lot of great twistys around my home but they come with random patches of gravel and rednecks in lifted 4X4 trucks driving left of center.

Edit:  I just re-read my earlier post and it does have a very "my dad could kick your dad's ass" tone.  I guess talking about muscle cars and PB&J takes me back to my formative years.

1. Mustang

2. Raspberry

3. Creamy

4. I'm a huge Farley fan so I will go with that. I just watched Tommy Boy for the first time in a while what a talent RIP Chris.

5. Inception, good not great.

1. New 2012 392 Challenger, all black, 6spd manual - then throw a supercharger on there for good measure.

4. I'd have to say since I grew up with them, I'd go H2 - Hartman, Farley, Carvey, Myers, Sandler. Hartman's Sinatra bit was amazing.

5. I know it's a few years past the 20 (I think 1983ish) but Scarface. Decent movie, enjoyed it. But way too much hype about that for just being a decent film.

2. Strawberry over grape, but I'm also crazy -- I like yellow mustard with PB (it's good if you like yellow mustard ... the tang of mustard goes well with the salty-sweet of PB)

3. Not just crunchy, extra crunchy!

No real opinion on the other questions ... vague preferences but nothing more or less.
