OT: Friday Open Thread about whatever

Submitted by JeepinBen on

That time of the week. Did we even have one last week? I was too busy going America all over everybody.

Anyway there's plenty of actual football talk elsewhere, from the Pac12 wussing out to the PSU fallout, I've really liked the recent either/or questions on the board, so here's some potential discussion topics for this summer Friday:

1. Mustang or Camaro? (Or Challenger for you Mopar folks. Open ended - classics, new, etc)

2. Strawberry or Grape on your PB&J?

3. Follow up to 2: Chunky or smooth PB?

4. SNL Halcyon 1 or 2? (Original cast, Belushi, Akroyd, Chevy,  etc vs. Sandler, Rock, Farley, etc)

5. Most overrated movie of the last 20 years?

Happy Friday everyone. And don't forget we're only  Days from the start of the season

I moved to a new office today, which is cool.  What sucks is the person there prior didn't properly clean up, so I have a bunch of shit I don't know what to do with.

Wedding of friend this weekend in Lansing.  I believe it has an open bar, so I will have to make sure I don't have too much fun.

I do love the girl, but it's still gonna be weird. I'm 30 now and will be honest, I got a lot of...pie...when I was younger and before I met her, so it's just gonna be strange, but I will of course be happy. I just don't want any kids, but I know I will be forced into it. The limit is one and I don't care what she says otherwise. I want none, she wants two, so in order to compromise, we should meet in the middle. She is lucky that I will even consider one. I just don't want that responsibility and I certainly don't want to pay for a kid.

However, I am scared that, after her training is complete, she will kill me in my sleep. I do need a new lightsaber instructor though. My last one pissed me off beyond belief because I found out he was a Sparty fan, so I cut him in half a la my former apprentice, Darth Maul.

Looking forward to the Breaking Bad on Sunday night, season premiere.  I may post a discussion thread for it on Sunday afternoon if it's okay with the rest of mgoblog.

Had lunch in AA with my favorite professor from undergrad (Andy Markovits)! Currently on my way to Cleveland to see Joel Osteen tonight and buy like eight cases of Yuengling Light for my friends in Michigan. Passed the exit to the boy's house. Heart stopped. Thought about staging a marriage proposal. Kept going toward Joel. :) Have a great weekend you guys! xoxo

Just cracked open my Growler of Arcadia Whitsun.

I love being a consultant and not working on a Friday.

And, crunchy PB w/ grape; SNL with Crystal, Guest, Shearer and Short or Murphy and Piscopo.

And we have no As the World Turns Around MGoJen weekly update?

Trying to stay by the rules of the questions...though there were some great outside the box suggestions in here-

Mustang. Though maybe not that 80's family car Mustang. But then I grew up in an era where every guy with a mullet or just came over from the Middle East thought they had a real sports car because they had a IROC that was as good as a Vette.  Special points to CRex and his Pontiac Trans Am Firebird pick.

I like grape jelly on toast, and even on a sandwich. Never been a huge PB&J fan. Not saying I don't see why people like it. Just not my thing. Rather have smooth than crunchy though.

Original SNL easy.  That's not even the second best era of SNL. Better competition would have been between the Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Joe Piscopo, Christopher Guest, Martin Short era. And might be part of that overlapping era, but pre-Sandler and such with Carvey, Dennis Miller, Mike Meyers and Lovitz was better, and a lot of them left early in the guys you lists career. Rock is great, but wasn't anything special on SNL. He was lucky he got out and went on to be funny rather than be the SNL token black guy.

Great movie list...though a LOT of them aren't in the last 20 years.  But I tried to fit ones that were popular and had critical acclaim. Rather than one or the other.  Not some awful blockbuster that critics hated, or something like American Beauty that won an Oscar but no one else saw. I guess the poster child for these movies has been James Cameron, mentioned quite a bit here. And while I'm not the first to say it, I'd go with Forrest Gump.  Not sure it was even the second best movie that year, and in no way should have beat Pulp Fiction for the Oscar, and while it's a fine nostalgia kick for baby boomers, and had some fun with computer meshing that's in every movie nowadays, it's not wildly entertaining. Not a "bad" movie by any stretch, but just highly overrated.

1. Camaro SS...I feel like everyone and their sister has a Mustang

2. Strawberry every day and twice on Sundays

3. Chucky, for texture of course

4. The later crew, but just because I wasn't exposed to the originals

5. Matrix...never understood the hype

1. I don't care about cars.

2. Grape.

3. Like my future children, I love both forms of peanut butter equally.

4. I'm 24, so...No. 2. I loved Belushi in Animal House and Blues Brothers but I haven't seen much of his old SNL stuff. And Chris Farley is effing hilarious.

5. Pineapple Express. Decent movie. Not worth the billing it receives from some folk.

ALSO! I got my copy of HTTV today and it is GLORIOUS!
