OT: Friday Night Open Thread

Submitted by justingoblue on

What's everyone up to tonight? Drinking anything good? Watching/listening to anything good? Hanging out with any old friends? New friends? Out anywhere interesting?

I'm with the girlfriend and her best friend drinking beer (Yuengling and Fosters) and a little scotch (Ardmore Traditional Cask) and listening to some Childish Gambino, Macklemore, Theophilius London and I'm sure many others. Still looking for a movie later. How about you, MGoBoard?

Was at Five Guys on campus a little while ago, about 90% sure that the guy who took my order was a former football player, but I couldn't place him.

The Tangerine Bowl (using the Seth-approved name) mercifully ended with a missed FG by Rutgers, so I am pleased to be switched to the Meineke Car Care Bowl, where I just watched the tail end of a kick return go to the house. That one play was more interesting the previous game in toto.

I am curled up with the laptop with a Sam Adams Winter Lager here as my wife dozes on the other side of the sofa. After an admittedly less-than-productive short week at work, I am ready for this four-day weekend and cornucopia of bowl games.

"...and listening to some Childish Gambino, Macklemore, Theophilius London..."

I must be completely out of the music loop...as I have no idea who or what those are. I guess I need to get out more.

H/T to a2_electricboogaloo and B-Nut-GoBlue from MGoBlog for getting Macklemore and Theophilius London on my radar. I'm not great finding new music, but they're worth checking out if you like the genre (indie hip hop is a pretty fair assessment, I think).

Glad Theophilus is still in your repertoire. I'm finding him (well, found out long ago) that he's becoming pretty timeless. There's never a time when something of his doesnt fit the mood/atmosphere.

Macklemore is becoming quite the popular artist too. Sad I missed him while he was in Iowa for for a few shows (close to home too, and when he was at Lollapalooza).

They're not a new band but still under the radar, the Japandroids are a duo of rock/punk I've been listening to a lot lately. Also listening to Kashmir off the new Led Zeppelin live album from their 2007 show; pretty damn good rendition.

Go Gophers...?!

Great amp-you-up song!  Agree on A$AP.  I think he'll blossom up into something on the level of, say, somebody like Young Jeezy but maybe not quite that "big"; not comparing the two whatsoever but that was the name that popped in my head as to "how big" I think he'll become.  I'm trying to think of some other newer stuff I've been digging or searching for but either my mind isn't working or I'm realizing I've been a bit lazy on my music game these past couple months.  A bar/dance-floor bar I've frequented lately has been playing Avicii's Levels so I've started to listen to that quite a bit and it gets me a good mood; I don't like myself for it and it's not new music (calling it music is debateable), but yea, that's been happening.

Working an overnight at the hospital on floors.  Drinking Diet Coke. Giving lots of kids O2...should be a fun night.

/going to Third Eye Blind at the fillmore tomorrow night, a band I've been wanting to seen since the late 90's.  Very excited about it, much more so than tonight.

I've seen some of the videos, never had a chance until now to see them live.  My wife is a huge fan (she almost lost it when I got her a signed LP for her birthday) so she's really excited as well (this is part of her Christmas gift).  I'm trying to arrange Slow's BBQ for dinner before as well, should be a great night.

Just got done working. At the bar celebrating my promotion to bartender, drinking a thunderbolt red.

If you hosers are ever through Evansville, IN and are pining for a pint and some Michigan talk, stop by Turonis Main Street Brewery. Both of us bartenders are big M fans, now.

Drink one for me tonight!

Cheers

Ah, one thing about being at "home" over the holidays is that I get to drink my parents good liquor. Had a Johnny Walker Blue with dad earlier. 7 and 7s with Sam Adams the rest of the night. Who else is getting snow?

Just shared a bottle of Founders Bolt Cutter with a good buddy. And cracked a bottle of Laphroiag Triple Wood afterward. I'm happy.

Went to a wedding on Sunset Key. Had some kind of special Bacardi, but it wasn't as good as my Sailor.

Went to dinner at Latitudes and had some form of red wine with my steak.

Night, night.
