The last article points out that after the 2011 season there were only 72 eligible teams available for 70 bowl slots. Not sure how many more schools would've qualified had they been off postseason bans, but if that trend continues then these new qualification rules could be used regularly.
If was the Prez or AD of a school that was getting buried by an unrealistic ticket burden and was going to lose money to go to a game, I would turn the bowl down. Then again, it goes out of the school's general or AD fund, to the bowls, and then it ends up in the hands of administrators as "perks," so maybe I wouldn't.
I don't mind all the bowl games even if they are two 5-7 teams if it means more football.
I guess we should get used to seeing more 6-7 UCLA vs. 6-6 Illinois-type matchups in the future.

It is still hard to fathom that UCLA went to the conference championship @ 6-6. (I know it happened, just amazing how every fell into alignment to allow it. Then top it off with the bowl loss they ended 6-8. Still makes me chuckle.)
As I think about it with PSU out of the picture for 4 years, Wisc is in control for next year, and then the only real competition for Ohio after that. (I just don’t see a 6-6 team coming out of there. Purdue or Nwstn would step up with 7-5, wouldn’t it?)
Yay! The NCAA is rooting for you Indiana!

We weren't bowl eligible for a couple years after thinking for a bit.

Just to make the crap bowls more exciting, have the 5-7 teams play on ice or on really tall grass with rattlesnakes in it.

I love the sarcastic “Ten loss ND”, however, their fans feel it should be true.
