In a bit to insert American flags at the tombstones of the 34 great men and women who served in three wars:  WW1, WW2 and the Korean War.

I will do it with pleasure while thinking of each of those brave Americans who contributed to the great lives that we are able to lead today.

A member of my tank platoon killed at Grafenwoehr, Germany 1989.  While not a combat death, he was a soldier of the forgotten war, the Cold War.

Well, I sort of feel guilty as some of you are posting from work - I took the entire day off, so I am posting / modding from home today. Of course, that is not to say that my better half did not become aware of my plan to take Friday off, hence I do have things to do today as a result. Granted, the worst of the chores is going to Meijer to get the things to be grilled this weekend, but still, it means making some sort of effort today. There is also the lawn and the final phases of my Vegetable Utopia to consider - crap, maybe I should have gone to work.

Saturday through Monday will involve mainly baseball, beer and grilled things. I am endeavoring to keep it simple.

Thanks to all who have served or are currently serving our nation here and abroad.

the day off also, wait i've had the whole week off and probably next week also... LOL... i guess the one good thing about being laid off is that i get to spend more time with my 10 month old twins...

the worst part was depoisting my last pay check yesterday and then getting chripped by a comerica bank teller that is a state fan... he start giving me shit because i was wearing a michigan bball hoodie... he was trying to throw the big ten tourny championship game in my face and when i brought up that we were 2 and 1 against state he says you're going to bring up the games where we had our water boy playing... i looked at him and called him a typical state fan and walked out...

Grateful for all those who have served and who are serving, including my grandpa, my uncles, my cousin, and my husband's cousin.

Working all weekend - work work, yard work, housework. That's what three-day weekends have become for this working mom!! :)

Thank you to all who made the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us. Every Memorial Day when my boys were younger, we'd go to the cemetery and plant flags in veterans' graves, and I'd tell them that those men lay there so that others like their grandpa could come back alive. Which means they are here because of those who lay there.

I don't know how many more Memorial Days my dad has left, he was one of many underaged teens who lied about their age to volunteer in WW2, spent his 17th birthday on a troop ship. He did it because his best friend's older brother was KIA. Happy Memorial Day, dad.

I took my children and my wife to my grandfathers grave yesterday.  Each child placed a flag beside his headstone and then we walked through Michigan Memorial admiring the amount of men buried there who served their countries.

I was deep.

We finished with a prayer over my grandfather's headstone.  we prayed for his soul, our family, and finally for the men and women who serve our country at this moment.

It might be a Band of Brothers weekend for me.   I've read the book 3 times, watched the series 4 times, and still get choked up every time.   Amazing soldiers did amazing things to protect our freedom.  Thanks.

To me, the most important holiday of the year. It dosen't matter where your from, what color your skin is, or who you voted for. It's about thanking all the brave people who have given us the right and privilege to be a free nation. Thank you to all that make this American holiday special.

who make so many sacrifices, many of them are not apparent. The toll that enslistment takes on the individual, the family, their children, is measurable. I hope that this country's government and administrations get off their asses and do far better for the military men, women and families, in pay, in medical care, and in ongoing education and support services. I hope this is not considered 'political,' as military families have been given less than adequate treatment for decades, and its high time to give them more.
