OT: Friday drinking/what are you up to this weekend thread (drinking optional)

Submitted by wigeon on

Not optional for me, as I am a Hopslam and an Edmund Fitzgerald invested already.  Snow removal and roof-detail for me tomorrow, as I live in perpetual snowland of 1/4 mile off Lake Michigan.  Narrowly dodged a nasty ice dam situation the last 2 winters, and hellbent on preventing one, 3rd year in a row.

No M Hockey this weekend, which is a bummer.  So, tomorrow is roof, M Hoops and some dog training. Sunday, the boy and I are floating a West Michigan river armed with spey rods and desire to beat a steelhead or two.  If you've never drifted a snowy river, I highly recommend it.

Tonight, 5 fingers of Elijah Crag 12 y/o and Red Wings by the fire.  No work shit, no Swenson, no worries.

for the Michigan Football Team tomorrow morning at Glick?
If so, I'm so envious of you---best of luck!

Not that I ever had nearly the ability and athleticism to play sports at that level, but I did something similar when I was in my early 20s, spending a day at a Detroit Tigers tryout in Kalamazoo. I made the first cut that day, but washed out quickly once I got a bat in my hand and proved incapable of hitting, especially breaking balls. Just doing the tryouts, though, was such a thrill!

Dinosaur BBQ tonight for some food and my buddies band. Then lots of pond hockey and labatt Blues Saturday and Sunday. I'm with you on the bummer of not have Michigan hockey playing so I'll have to rock my jersey when I play.

That's what I played every winter weekend when I was a kid until my late teens when I left for college.

We'd cut a hole in the ice on the corner of a nearby farmer's pond after school on Thursday, form a bucket brigade to flood the surface, then have good enough ice Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Great times---and a helluva lot more fun than the video games kids play these days!

(Let the "off my lawn" comments begin...)

Located outside Baltimore....for the next 36 hours I'll be enjoying numerous beverages and shoveling 24-36 inches of the snow. Not complaining as it could be much worse....now if we lose power....NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Always envious of of those who can spend an evening there.  So many memories.   I worked on State Street as a student, and I proposed a toast there to the entire bar to the National Champions in the early hours of 1998.  It is a favorite whenever I come back to town.

Beefeater doesn't have that strong juniper taste. Excellent for g&ts. When it's warm out, make a gin & tonic with a lime slice, mix it with an equal amount of lemonade (yellow or pink), add a splash of cranberry juice, you'll have yourself a good drink.

A few Blue Moon pints after work with Fireball chasing it down. Beautiful day out here in Phoenix suburbs with mid-70s and these temps will carry into the weekend. Sorry my East coast MGOBloggers.

The nice thing about dealing with a huge storm in DC/Maryland/VA area is that everything completely shuts down... so as long as you are prepared a few days out, its like a vacation.  My job, and many many others, are either completely shut down, or at least have no expectation of work attendance.  For me, this will last at least a few days after the last flake falls.  In fact, during our biggest storm last year (which this storm dwarves) my county sent out emergency messages saying that anyone on any road for any reason would be stopped and arrested.  It's a mandatory stay-cation.

A power outage would suck though.
