OT: Freep: 15+ Spartan Players involved in Dorm Beatdown?

Submitted by Sven_Da_M on
Coach Dantonio is likely not having a restful Thanksgiving. From Shannon Shelton of the Freep: http://tinyurl.com/sparty-party Prior allegations become more serious as the article quotes an attorney for one of the injured dorm residents, Brent Mitchell: >>"Mr. Mitchell remains under his doctor's care and is recuperating at home with his family," attorney Vanessa Moss-Wilson said. "While we applaud the athletic department's quick and decisive actions as it relates to two of the athletes involved, there is substantial and credible information that more than 15 football players were involved in this unprovoked act of violence." I guess this is the new off-field fashion statement for Spartan Football: Good for recruiting? The real meaning of loss of institutional control? Maybe if they were practicing "overtime" they wouldn't be able to partake in recreational assault and battery.

Why not? They can get all amped up on energy drinks and watching the 300 over and over again and then pretend to push a bunch of Persians into the sea. Maybe if we're lucky this is finally the event that pierces the Dantonio teflon....

It'd be fairly easy to visit the +- 100 thugs and check their knuckles and upper bodies for abrasians. Seems like common sense to you and I, but you think the EL police would be on board with that? Not likely I suppose.

If this is true, I wouldn't send my kid to play there. MSU is still a Michigan tax payer supported school, someone should be held accountable, and more then just the players!

Looks like Shannon Shelton is actually doing some investigative reporting. Her reporting of this MSU incident stands in stark contrast to Rosenberg's ridiculous "invstigation" of Michigan practicing too much. Let's hope that Anger and the freep management give this MSU story the full investigative attention it deserves. My hopes are not high, however.

the local papers pretty much passed on any indepth reporting. ESPN just picks up the local coverage. MSU players involved in a fight has the same national interest as say.....players at North Carolina State involved in a fight. big freakin' deal outside of the state of Michigan.

Hi,you don't know us,but we're sparty ...after the game and on random weekends,we like to relax by lighting up a couch or two and joining in on some unprovoked beatdowns. That's why when we're out of town we carry the get out of jail free card...we wouldn't be caught without it.

Since most of you missed last week, I'll also note that Winston, the one involved in last year's incident, was dismissed from the team for being involved. There's quite a few threads from early in the week for some comedy gold if you search hard enough.

Is the Freep actually going to stop kissing Saint Dantonio's uh, ring now? It looks like the Saint's exemption from criticism is about to expire. It would be nice to see the Freep do an investigative piece on something that actually involved a crime. I'm not a "legal person," but felony assault and B&E charges might be appropriate here. If they are all caught and charged with felonies, Sparty would hold the record for most felonies by one team in a season. This could make the Portland "Jailblazers" look like choir boys.

I visited RCMB (very, very briefly), and at least half of the posters there are blaming the victim's attorney, with the other half saying variations of "why, sparty, why." I'll bet they wouldn't be blaming the victim's attorney if it was UM players.

I'm torn. Carson Butler was hardly Mr. Popularity around here, but then there was a vocal minority with our problem last weekend talking about "false accusations". But then there wasn't THAT much support for it, and it's a lot more he said-she said potentially than an event with probably hundreds of witnesses.

WTH is going on in EL? They're keeping the Campus cops busy. There will another piece coming out soon, "Why do the MSU football players cry during sex? Pepperspray."

has drop the hammer on all of these kids... i understand that it is fair to give people 2nd chances. but this is the second time in 2 years that state football players have stormed a house looking for ONE person and end up hurting the wrong person and others. and to top it off this time they harm some girls in their wake....

This is unbelievable. If I were the family of one of the victims, I wouldn't just sue - I'd want Dantonio gone. How the hell does this go on?

This is a really messed up story and is pretty sad, but at the same time I'm happy. This means my stupid sparty "friends" can't just unload crap on me all off season and expect me to not come back with anything. Dantonio may want to actually do something about this.

The best thing about this awful story is how perfectly Sparty it is. Michigan is in it's worst stretch of football in 40+ years, and all MSU can do is lay an egg during a year they were supposed to contend for the Big Ten title, and then follow it up with this nightmare. It just somehow fits their collective persona so well.
