OT - Frankenberry

With a lull before the Spring Game, I thought it would be a great time for some input into one of the deeper questions on breakfast cereals.

General Mills for years has made Count Chocula. You can find it at most stores at most times of the year.

They also make two other cereals, Boo Berry and Frankenberry. Unfortunately these two cereals are limited to the time around Halloween for their availability and are limited to where you can even find them. I know that Busch sells them, but you can't find these anywhere in Canada.

So the question is, which one is better? Count Chocula, Boo Berry or Frankenberry? My preference has always been Frankenberry?

I've been living in China for two years now and I am still going through cereal withdrawals. Every year my extended family would have a gift exchange for Christmas and every year without fail I would receive, along with a gift certificate to Best Buy, a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There is not even proper milk over here let alone decent cereal. For breakfast the Chinese eat pretty much what they would eat for lunch. Noodles, lots of noodles. Sweet food isn't very popular over here, so a bowl of CTC would probably cause the average Chinese person to go into diabetic shock or go on a killing spree. I'm jonesin' for a fix..... If anybody could find it in their heart to send me a box of CMT I would give you the naming rights to my first born child. Seriously.

that you do not have to stop loving cereal when you grow up. We commonly go through three boxes a week at the house and I mix it up pretty frequently. So as others see themselves as aficionados of wine, cigars, and other such luxuries, I'd like to think I know a thing or two about cereal.

With that being said, Frankenberry is a dentist's dream-- it's so loaded with sugar that after eating it for a solid week your teeth begin to legimitately hurt. Sure, that's called childhood, but Frankenberry just doesn't translate well to adult life. Still, it's got a very unique flavor that you just don't find in any other brand.

BooBerry was my favorite of three as a kid, just because I loved all things blueberry. It's got an okay taste, not as solid as Frankenberry, and on their own the non-marshmallow pieces are not as good as the other cereals. Plus the BooBerry character is kind of creepy but not in a Halloween way-- he's like some black-faced glowing sperm, and hey, that's just not my thing.

Count Chocula... yes, an old favorite, but as I've grown up I've found its chocolate flavor to be a very fake-tasting one. I guess it's just geared to a kid's palette-- excessive sugar+chocolate is a surefire recipe for any kid to get sent to his room, but it's worth the ride. I love chocolate-based cereals in general, so for me I'll pass over this for one of those.

And as far as I'm concerned, the best chocolate cereal-- hands down-- Cocoa Krispies. To quote the great Mitch Hedberg, "In Hollywood it's all about who you know, and I know Crackle!

I used to eat Cookie Crisp b/c of that gangsta the Cookie Crook. Then I figured it would be even MORE gangsta to just put whole chocolate chip cookies in a bowl and pour milk over it. So, now I'm totally GANGSTA and look like B.I.G., just white, and you know, alive.

I use to eat all those high sugar cereals. I miss all those wacky cereal commercials on Saturday morning from the late 60s and 70s, back when UM was a most excellent team.

Boo Berry was one of my favorites, also liked Crunch Berry, fruit loops, fruity pebbles, cocoa krispies, cocoa puffs, lucky charms, peanut butter crunch, Frankenberry, Count Chocula. Anything that made the milk taste better!.

Now that I'm older! I only eat old fashion oatmeal or total cereal, since I'm trying to keep my arteries from closing shut!

You have to use less milk than usual when you eat Life, Chex, or Frosted Mini Wheats to keep the sogginess problem to a minimum. Either that, or split it into two bowls.
