OT: Frank Gore fined for Sock Violation

Frank Gore Fined for Sock Violation

What did you think I meant?

Gore Fined for Socks

Frank Gore's efforts in the San Francisco 49ers' NFC Championship Game victory over the Atlanta Falcons didn't go unnoticed by the NFL, which decided he wore his socks last Sunday a little too low to its liking. Gore, seen here standing on the field before the NFC Championship Game, was fined $10,500 for wearing his socks too low, a source told ESPN.

Gore, mindful of the importance of the upcoming Super Bowl, responded

"Yeah, I'll be cool. It's all good. I was wrong. Next time, I'll do better."

In EveryJoeSpeak, that means

Frank Gore looks like a 65 year old man.

In all fairness, we talk a lot about the Michigan brand here on the Board and the NFL is simply protecting its brand in this fine.  Every single player knows what is expected of their uniforms.  That's why they are called "uniforms" - they are supposed to be uniform.  Gore knew he was breaking the rule (no matter how silly people might think it is) and he deserves to be fined.

I'm with you on this. That's a pretty big, visible stretch of the uniform rule by Gore. If the NFL allowed players to be that loose with how they wear the uniform - and players took that freedom in all different kinds of directions, as they surely would - you'd get a bunch of guys dressed kind of vaguely similarly to one another.

Is this more or less than Jonathan Vilma was fined for turning football into a roman gladiator show? Keep that focus where it matters, guys.

For the education of the board, here's the actual rule from the NFL Rulebook:

Stockings

(f) Stockings must cover the entire area from the shoe to the bottom of the pants, and must meet the pants below the knee. Players are permitted to wear as many layers of stockings and tape on the lower leg as they prefer, provided the exterior is a one-piece stocking that includes solid white from the top of the shoe to the mid-point of the lower leg, and approved team color or colors (non-white) from that point to the top of the stocking. Uniform stockings may not be altered (e.g., over-stretched, cut at the toes, or sewn short) in order to bring the line between solid white and team colors lower or higher than the mid-point of the lower leg. No other stockings and/or opaque tape may be worn over the one-piece, two-color uniform stocking. Barefoot punters and placekickers may omit the stocking of the kicking foot in preparation for and during kicking plays.

The entire section on uniforms is actually close to four pages long, and this is actually one of the shorter passages in it.

All I want to know is where does the $10,500 fine go? I really hope that the nfl is decent enough to donate all this money to charity. I mean, did he really offend anyone? This is laughable...i don't care how much money he makes.
