Well...

I still think Rutgers will be a tomato can, and am glad they will be in Michigan's division.  If Kyle Flood can bring in the same kind of players that Greg Schiano did, then I will be wrong.

I think it's reasonably safe to say that Rutgers isn't going to send 7 players to the NFL every year.

They at least won 9 games.

U-Conn had 5 players drafted and had a losing record.

players may have some options re. team but...

if drafted the team has more of their reputation on line re. scouting and drafting.

have not seen stats -- but draft picks have a higher rate of making the team than FA.

leagues have greatly curtailed rounds of draft because they do like FA free for all.

At that point you're drafting

At that point you're drafting for good athletes who might be able to break through for some reason, not average Joes like Omameh, Demens, etc.  Cox is a better athlete than all of them.  His workout numbers compare favorably with a lot of the backs in the draft, including the "best" of them.

6'0", 222 lbs., 4.58 forty, 24 reps on the bench press, 41" vertical, 10'11" broad jump, 4.08 shuttle time.

I won't claim that he's a future NFL rushing champ or that he'll make an active roster.  But you can't look at those workout numbers and not be at least a little bit intrigued about what this guy might be able to do.

Michigan's senior talent level was a joke

I guess it's not much of a surprise, but its still shocking to see it.  Rutgers, UConn,  all sorts of shitty schools had more drafted players than Michigan.  Of course, as has been widely noted, the B1G lacked talent across the board, with Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern getting shut out, one guy getting drafted from Purdue, one guy from Iowa.  Just a total embarassment for the conference.  In the eyes of the NFL, the ACC was hugely more talented.  And god help any comparison to the SEC.

Yeah

And M's 2 picks were for positions they didn't play in college. There is a reason for that. Look for michigan and osu to have a bunch of picks in 3 years.

Well, 20 of Michigan's 46

Well, 20 of Michigan's 46 recruits from 2008-09 left before running out of eligibility, so that severely limits the pool of players eligible to be drafted.  Toss in the fact that Michigan changed schemes from 2007 to 2008 and then from 2010 to 2011, and there were a lot of misfits on Michigan's roster.  For example, guys like Elliott Mealer and Brandon Moore probably would not have been recruited by Rich Rodriguez if not for the fact that they were already committed to Michigan.  Sprinkle in some poor talent evaluation by Rodriguez and his staff, and it ended up pretty ugly for Michigan.

On the plus side, there should be several more draft picks next year (Lewan, Schofield, perhaps Toussaint, perhaps Gardner, perhaps Jake Ryan, etc.) and then we should be back on track with producing NFL talent.

More importantly Magnus: After perusing your site lately, I've noticed a definite lack of the usual "hot girl" tags. I know NSFW and all, but has there been a change in the direction of your blog? Are there now rules against this? Say it ain't so. It's a great bonus to an informative post.

I don't get all these Magnus jokes. If Magnus wants to like Cox he has every right. If he likes watching film of Cox we shouldn't criticize him. Now the question is, what does he think of Cox blocking?

IIRC

Magnus is also pretty fond of Hand. He had to move on after Cox was gone.

Dude's 220 lbs. and ran a 4.58 forty. Meanwhile, both Vincent Smith and JT Floyd ran 4.8 forties and didn't get picked. Maybe I'm not as crazy as some of you think...

Well, he scored 2 touchdowns

Well, he scored 2 touchdowns on 20 touches while at Michigan.  So I guess we get 12 points.  Fourteen, if you count the extra points.

Pretty amazing how talent != success

UConn had seven guys drafted I think and UNC had a ton of guys drafted too but both of those teams pretty much suck. Michigan had 2 players drafted and none before the 5th round and we've won a BCS bowl and then had a 8-4 regular season the next year. Imagine what the coaches will do once we get the ol' NFL talent train rolling again

Just an example of how a team's talent when they play together can be larger than the sum of its parts!  Clearly, that describes us in the eyes of NFL talent evaluators.
