OT: Former M target Adoree Jackson Disqualified from track event

Submitted by BostonWolverine on

Sounds like he was disqualified for receiving electronic communication (i.e. watching a replay of himself in the wrong place). Sometimes, the stuff sports officials choose to care about is sort of weird.

Could have put the reason for the DQ in the title.  Given the usual path of topics like this, I'm sure many will assume there was something more serious (illegal) at play.

And for the record, at the high school level the coaches are the ones who vote on rules and rules changes.

Never underestimate the idiocy of a track official who wants to assert himself. I ran in high school, and we almost lost a meet because our star sprinter forgot he had a tiny rubber band on his wrist and got DQed five minutes after he'd won a final heat because the official finally noticed.

Which is crazy because these kids watch their idols in track and swimming and they've got their beats on until they get into/onto the starting blocks.

It's a joke.

They say it's safety or so you can hear the PA, but it's not like someone is going to walk into the jav throw just because he's wearing headphones. And no one listens to the shitty PA annoucements when they're on the track, they just ask the hundreds of officials.

I coach HS track in Ohio and to me these rules are a joke.  As a coach, you want your athlete to perform the best they possibly can, as safe as possible.  The use of electronics is mostly used in the Shot, Discus, High Jump, and Pole Vault to help them correct their technique.  Watching video in a "designated area" or "coaching box" is ok, but one step to the left or right is a violaion? Give me a break.  What are they really trying to accomplish here.  Lets do everything we can to help our kids, not disqualify them because the rules are ignorant.

when you see rules like this being applied its because the people applying them have really crappy lives where they have absolutely no power, so when they get to be officails in a high school sport they become tyrannical dictators whose love of applying stupid ass rules outweighs their love of the sport itself.

I've seen it many times myself.

Summer camp is even worse. You get all these teachers who feel powerless and beaten down during the school year, and then in the summer they get some title like Director of K-2 Arts and Crafts, and then watch out, suddenly K-2 Arts and Crafts requires that the entire camp staff attends a two-hour peanut allergy seminar and when you bring your group to K-2 Arts and Crafts, the next thing you know the camp director is calling you into his office for inappropriate clothing, and then he laughs when he sees your Kappa shirt because that's what the K-2 Arts and Crafts Director reported you for...

Sorry. Not even a CSB. Just... holy schnikes yes, teachers who feel powerless are the worst sort of tyrants when they get even a smidge of power.
