OT: Florida State 2016 Spring Game to be held in Orlando

Submitted by Noleverine on

In the age of neutral site games, Florida State has decided to one-up everyone else and have their Spring Game at a neutral site:

“The short term construction challenges of building the Champions Club in Doak Campbell stadium have provided a unique opportunity for our 2016 spring football game,” said Wilcox. “We are pleased to offer our fans greater access to Florida State football at an exciting and refurbished venue in one of the best destinations cities in the world. Moving the game to Orlando and partnering with Steve Hogan and his staff at Florida Citrus Sports will allow us to platform the game and Florida State athletics in exciting and unique new ways.”

If I remember correctly, during renovations to the Big House, Michigan elected to have their Spring Game across the street at Pioneer (ed: Saline)and close it to the public. I like the idea of instead having it in a location central within the state, giving fans who might not want to drive the 6 hours from Miami an opportunity to attend.

I watched the security tape of that situation from before the 2 bumped into each other to the aftermath.

Few things to note:

1. The arm bar method in getting a spot at a crowded bar rarely works. Patience people

2. Don't get into an argument with drunk chicks at a bar. It's futile.

3. Even if the chick is about to punch you first, just let her. Don't grab her arm...

4. Just walk away, even if she deserves it. F = ma doesn't work in your favor in court of law or public opinion.

and lastly...

5. That girl got quite the chin. Took that punch like a champ.

I doubt hipster bro with the tank top on her right would've survived that right hook to the dome.

...

Johnson hired Casey Anthony's lawyer LOL. He's going to try to make the girl be the aggressor and weasel his client out of this on self-defense judging by the statement they released bahahaha.

Watch the whole video. This girl isn't a poor angel by any means. The dude overreacted big time, but don't tell me she didn't instigate it by threatening to punch and then punching him first.

He grabbed her left arm b/c she closed it up and was about to punch him right after turning around.

You can't can't can't hit a girl ever. That being said, you can't hit a guy at a bar for simply trying to edge you out. They both come of looking like assholes. Is it victim blaming if the victim is actually the aggressor? He should have been kicked off the team, but she should have been kicked out of the bar too.

What's truly astounding here is how the bartender and barback just keep going about their business after the punch is thrown, and even after the "victim"* tells the bartender what happened.  That becomes a touch less astounding when you see that one's wearing a 'Murikan flag beater and the other is wearing overalls with no shirt, but still.

The bar must supply their staff with top-shelf Adderall to keep that sort of focus.

*"Victim" gets the quotes because she threw the first punch at a presumably drunk stranger (who, until he retaliated, was a victim).  It's never right to hit someone, but both of these folks seem like grade A jackasses.

As a former bartender, my eye was drawn to them too.  The one dude pours a stronger drink than I've ever freaking seen.  Like a 20 count.  But then his shots are a regular 1.25 oz pour.  My guess is the heavy pour was an LIT mix, but not free pouring long islands... that's some classy stuff.

I'm also sort of surprised at the lack of reaction, but neither of them saw it directly.  You can see that her friend tells one of them who tells another.  They seem to try to get a bouncer then just shrug it off.

I live in Ohio and generally don't have a problem with Buckeye fans.  But I was in downtown Cincinnati that day wearing Bearcat gear.

There were multiple (four!!!) times where Buckeye fans initiated "conversations" by saying stuff like "Bearcats suck!  OSU would beat the crap out of Cincinnati!  Screw UC ... O H I O!!!"

Just kind of strange, why they even felt the need to interact.  Seems like OSU fans wouldn't even think about Cincinnati, much less feel the need to state their superiority.

The big difference, that you are all forgetting, is that Florida State is really good right now. We were really, REALLY, bad in 2008. Like unbelievably bad. The coaches didn't WANT to show the public what was going on.

Even if it would've been something like this past year with the Harbaugh hype...I think it goes to Ford Field.

However, in 2008 we were awful...I assume that was RR's first year so it's not like he knew the area, had contacts or gave a fuck...he just wanted another practice.

Brandon Graham...and everyone else.

At that time, we didn't know exactly HOW bad we were going to be yet. Logically, there was going to be some major dropoff with the graduations and early departures. But I don't think anyone imagined the worst season in school history was on the horizon. The coaches still might not exactly have wanted too much attention at that moment.

But it in no way should be the norm. One of the best parts about the Spring game is that it's an excuse to get back to campus (and tailgate) in the spring and outside of the normal season. Taking that one day away would be a bit lame in my opinion.

trying to warn the fine folks at Disney about FSU coming to town.

Seriously, I thought I might have to spend a few minutes finding an image to convey this message.  Instead I had to spend more time trying to figure out which of the images was the best.  Apparently locking up Disney Princesses is a thing.
