OT: Florida DC Teryl Austin hired as Texas DC

Submitted by BKFinest on
Strike another one off the list of potential DC's for us next year. And a good one at that. Teryl Austin, former UM defensive assistant coach from 99-02, is now being scooped up by Mack Brown and Texas to replace Muschamp. Jason Suchomel, Orangebloods.com (Rivals Texas Site) reporting: Multiple sources have now indicated that #UT will hire Florida DC Teryl Austin to replace Will Muschamp.

I heard the same thing. Things are constantly changing though. Apparently Muschamp offered the Florida DC job to Alabama's DC Kirby Smart. From what I'm seeing from Twitter (newspaper guys, etc), it sounds like he will be staying in Tuscaloosa. Now the people around Florida (newspaper guys, etc.) are suggesting that Muschamp go after Shannon. That's more of speculation though. Nothing official. I'd imagine he'd be interested in that, right?

This is a carousel like I've never seen before. But I guess that's what happens when a big time HC retires leaving a prime job open.

This is yet another reason it concerns me that DB is waiting.

I mean, even if he keeps RR, Gerg has to be gone, right?

Yet, all the action is happening now.  By setting such a rigid timetable, we're dooming ourselves to pick from the leftovers.  After our bowl on Jan. 1, everyone will already be settled in new positions and it'll be a lot harder to get the person we want.  There will be less choices.  Teryl Austin is now not an option.  By then, Shannon might have gone somewhere else too, in the mean time, Dave Brandon is sitting there twiddling his thumbs instead of making moves, because he's sticking to his timetable.

And, not like this is a desireable destination right now for a DC candidate, so, we need to be helping ourselves any way we can, and DB is just handicapping us in a DC search.

Seriously, watch us end up with Gerg again next year.  I wouldn't be surprised one bit, because, by the time DB makes his evaluations there may be no other options left.
