OT: Final Fulmer Cup Results

Colorado takes the team competition, based on a really really rough night for Nathaniel Robbins. He alone was responsible for 45 points (as reference, Cannibalism, the most serious single offense, is worth 25 points) which was already good enough to win, while his teammates chipped in to bring the total to 68.

SEC (surprise) takes the conference.

Michigan's only incident was Alex Malzone's disorderly conduct and ID tampering.

Edit: Per u/bakonydraco

One particular case, Dereck Boles, could develop in interesting ways. Boles bit part of the ear off a man, and was charged with Idaho Statute I18-5001, Mayhem, which specifies disfigurement, and would be 5 points. A related statute, I18-5003, is for cannibalism, a charge we have worth 25 points that we never intended to seriously hand out. I called the Ada County Court back in July, who confirmed that he was only initially charged Mayhem.

However, he pled not guilty in August, and has his next hearing September 9, and the clerk advised that the Prosecutor may tack on the Cannibalism charge at this stage. Without the charge, we couldn't give him the 25 points, but he ended up with 9 in light of the fact that he still could receive that charge.

The charges the defensive lineman is facing are (take a deep breath) two counts of first-degree assault on a peace officer, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, two counts of criminal mischief, first-degree burglary, attempted second-degree kidnapping, second-degree burglary, resisting arrest, second-degree arson, obstruction of telephone services, harassment, obstructing peace officers and domestic violence.

I am willing to bet money that it is a while before any one player beats this sort of prolific point production in the Fulmer Cup standings. I mean, where to begin....wow....that's all I can say really.

This is /r/CFB's write up:

In the years since the Cup was created, other players have scored more points than Nathanial Robbins, however few have reached the sheer level of variety in one night that went really, really south. To summarize: After an argument at a bar where his girlfriend accused him of cheating on her, he tried to make up and fell asleep on her couch. She finds his phone and is upset at some texts he sent, so she threw water on him. To quote Sublime: That's when things went out of control. During the ensuing argument, Robbins (6'5", 265 lbs) grabbed his girlfriend and threw her around the room, including grabbing her by the throat and attempting to choke her. Somehow during this time he also burned a giant teddy bear he had bought for her on the apartment's stove (arson charge stems from this). During the fracas, both of his girlfriend's roommates tried to stop him but were also assaulted. The roommates then went to a neighbor's to call 911. Two police arrived as Robbins was trying to break into the neighbor's apartment. At this point an officer got between Robbins and his girlfriend and drew his firearm, telling him to get on the ground. Robbins chose to tackle the officer down a flight of stairs, knocking the second officer down in the process. More police arrived and subdued him after a struggle. The end result? 15 counts (originally 18): 8 felonies, 7 misdemeanors, and a lot of points.

This is one poll that I am glad we never lead in.  We'll get the occassional lineman attempting a Dukes of Hazzard slide across a car, or a young QB flashing his McLovin ID, but we don't have thugs.

Eh, I agree generally we recruit higher character players, but kids that age just do dumb, dumb stuff sometimes. It's really luck of the draw mostly. Rutgers won last year but got zero points this year, for example.

The Csonte York year was really rough as far as off field incidents, IIRC. The LTT incident doesn't look great either (although slightly more understandable after some details came out). Also, Frank Clark... twice.

Let's be fair here.  Gibbons was never actually charged with a crime.  When it became obvious that he was a lying scumbag, Michigan actually changed their rules so they could "legally" kick him out of school.

Compare that to a school where one basketball player tells the police he saw the other commit a sexual assault and both play for the next four years whiile the head coach keeps their names out of the media and eventually makes the police report "disappear" from the internet.

As Michigan fans, we have a lot to be proud of when it comes to the caliber of personnel Michigan gets and the swift dismissals that happen if they violate team policies, especially those involving domestic violence or sexual assault.

On this issue, we can laugh at other schools and throw all the stones we want.

Agree mostly, but Michigan didn't change the rules for Gibbons. Federal guidelines led to that rule change, which relaxed the criteria needed to investigate. That allowed them to re-open the investigation and found he was very likely guilty of sexual assualt even if never charged, and then expelled him.

I feel like, regardless of charges and their point system, that Baylor should be the default "winner" of the Fulmer Cup this year.

Sounds like the initial crimes were the girl getting into Nate's cellphone and then pouring water on him is certainly assault. Was she charged with anything?
The guy was just sleeping off his alcohol.
Must have been really hammered, though!

At this point an officer got between Robbins and his girlfriend and drew his firearm

How did this guy not get shot?
