OT- FIFA officials arrested, charged with corruption
And the Swiss are evidently playing along with plans to extradite them to the US. Right now we don't know if Blatter is among the indicted. Jack Warner's name unsurprisingly pops up.
At the least, this is a nice black eye and extended middle finger to Sepp Blatter.
At the most hopefully the World Cup moves out of Qatar.

Edit: damn, doesn't look like they nailed Blatter
sources tell me sepp blatter is not among the fifa officials who are being arrested

...a fantastic job laying out Blatter's modus operandi in a piece last month, and I'm assuming if you are on this thread you've also seen John Oliver's FIFA segment from last summer before the world cup; here's the bloomberg piece, which is definitely worth 10 minutes of your time: http://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-sepp-blatter-fifa/
+1 for subvehicularize.
Also, I'd tend to think that Webb, Warner, and Blatter are smart enough not to have a clear written record of their illegal actions - but I hope not.
And, yes, screw Sepp Blatter.

USA! Living in Kzoo, three potetinal sites are within ~2 hours.
thinking they may use the Big House instead of Ford Field, so I included Ann Arbor along with Detroit and Chicago.
Ghana vs Italy...at Houseman Field.
Something tells me that today's arrests make it highly unlikely the US hosts the World Cup in the near future.
Au contrair... if we keep this up, after a few more arrests FIFA might vote to host the final game at San Quentin.
Says a lot about the state of FIFA when my initial reaction was "only six people were arrested?"
That report, however, has never been made public; instead, the top judge on the ethics committee, the German Joachim Eckert, released a summary of the report. In it, he declared that while violations of the code of ethics had occurred, they had not affected the integrity of the vote.
So, overt attempts to steer the vote in a particular direction do not necessarily affect the integrity of the vote? I am shocked that FIFA just didn't say, "Your larger point being what?" in this portion of their own inquiry.
This E60 Report is a great video to watch about the corruption of FIFA since Blatter's rise to power. They even got executive members on camera admitting to corruption to undercover reporters. Russia getting 2018 was partially corrupt. Qatar was on another level.
Thank you for sharing this. As someone with very little knowledge of soccer and FIFA, this was very eye opening.
would be like stopping the construction of the pyramids right before they're finished"
-what one of the fifa officials will probably say

They'll probably rack up the same death count as the old pyramids too at the rate Qatar is going.
This seems pretty open and shut. Anyone who has made money selling the idea that soccer is an exciting sport is clearly perpetuating fraud at a massive level.

Those aren't the hashtags I'm looking for.
But... none of this yet explains why LFC has sucked so bad the past few years (save last year, although, that was more Luis than anything else).

r.e. FIFA being a non-profit with a reserve fund of $1 billion:
"When your reserve fund is so large you have to check it for swimming cartoon ducks, you've stopped being a non-profit"
if we were awarded the World Cup instead of Qatar.
I actually hope it does not. Then it will look like the US did all of this just to "steal" the WC from Qatar.
In case you have not heard, there are a lot of countries that do not like or trust the US, and are highly susceptible to any kind of conspiracy theory.
Better to let it play out and be rewarded for our cleaning house at a later date.
I think England will end up getting it b/c they got screwed by Russia for 2018. That also makes it look less like US did it out of retaliation for not getting the 2022 bid.
Blatter hasn't been arrested yet, but I think the hammer is going to fall hardest on him. Hopefully.
The story is movie worthy - spying, wire taps, racketeering, back stabbing, politics, pay-offs...

Love MIB. They've got to be eating this up. They hate FIFA, and for good reason.
...water is wet.
This is big news, actually. While everyone knows FIFA is corrupt, they are almost never arrested or indicted.
A country where the population could fit into Lambeau Field gets equal money from FIFA as the United States or Germany.
How does the US have jurisdiction over an international agency? If FIFA officials want to take bribes for the World Cup why is it the FBI's business? I think the headlines are overstating what the US will be able to prosecute.
Because they are using american based banks to launder the money. This is basically a rico/wire fraud case
How did it take this long for Warner to get charged? This guy has been a crook for two decades.
The NSA was busy with other things.
I am shocked!
Seems plausible here
