OT: Favorite TV show as a kid

Submitted by Gil From Omaha on
What was your favorite TV show as a child? One you still remember? I just found out all Power Rangers series are on Netflix, so it brought me to this question. And mine was Power Rangers!

Someone else mentioned racing home from school to watch TV.  My sister's favorite show was Dark Shadows.  When my grandmother babysat us, she watched Peyton Place, one of the earliest soap operas.  In college, a bunch of my classmates got into General Hospital, but I never saw the appeal.

We didn't have children's programming available all day every day, so the only real opportunity to watch cartoons was Saturday mornings, and my favorite was Jonny Quest.  When I was older, Scooby Doo started, and I enjoyed that too.

My mom always talked about Dark Shadows. She said it was an event around the house when it came on. They used to show repeats of it a few years back; can't remember what channel. That was a pretty cool show. I like Night Gallery too. I don't have Comcast anymore, so I don't know if Me TV still shows repeats of that or not.

G.I. JOE'S....by far the best tv show ever made. Sometimes on Saturday mornings we would get to go to the store and buy new G.I. JOE'S. We had a full army before it was all said and done. G.I. JOE'S...real American heroes!

TGIF and SNICK were must sees.

Had to have your microwavable pizza ready and be in front of the TV.

There was something glorious about watching a show when it was on.   The last ditch option if you weren't home was to record it on a VHS.

You wanted to avoid that so you were ready to go at 8PM both days.

So many...as a kid I would try to finish up my bowling league quickly Saturday mornings so I could be home to watch the newest X-men episode. Watched a lot of TGIF with my parents and enjoyed Family Matters, Step by Step, etc. Are You Afraid of the Dark was a must see. Batman/Superman cartoons, Animaniacs, Wishbone, GUTS, Scooby Doo, Salute your Shorts, Pinky and the Brain...

By the time I reached 14 or so, the unequivocal favorite was X-Files.

Happy Days was my ish in the 1970's when you had maybe 4 channels to choose from.

Richie, Potsie, Ralph, Mr. & Mrs. C, and obviously The Fonz.

Niiice thread! I used to love getting home to watch Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, and Rescue Rangers. Saturday mornings were reserved for X-Men, Sonic the Hedgehog, Power Rangers although at some point it came on during the week too, and Michigan football. Sundays were Dragonball and Dragonball Z and The Incredible Hulk. I also loved Doug. Patty Mayonnaise was HOT and Porkchop was the greatest dog! BeeBee Bluff was a bitch. GUTS was the shiznit, watching those awkward unathletic kids made me certain I could win, although things usually look easier watching other people. My family usually watched Step-by-Step, Family Matters and Full House together on TGIF. I think that's it.

edit: Talespin. Also Wonder Years was and still is an amazing show. Amongst the best to ever be on TV.

edit #2: Rocko's Modern Life. There was a girl at my school who look just like Heffer. She had the body shape and all. Also Aeon Flux was crazy!

edit #3: Wild and Crazy Kids!!

I'm old.  More than any other show "I Dream of Jeannie" still does something really amazing for me.  Barbara Eden might still be TV's all time greatest goddess.
