Pop. Morans here in Florida don't even know what I'm talking about. My favorite is either Rock N' Rye (can't find it here), Red Pop (Sam's has it) or Mandarin Jarritos (it's everywhere down here).

One must first decide pop v. Soda before this question can be answered. Hence, this question can never be answered.

However, my favorite syrupy carbonated beverage all depends on what meal in heating, the weather, time of day. Too many factors. If I'm sick give me vernors. If I'm at the ballgame I'll take a Pepsi or coke when I can't afford any more beer. If I'm pregaming with vodka I'll take orange crush or Mountain Dew.

One does not simply have a favorite.

I asked for pop at the Rutgers game last year. They didn't know what I was talking about. Do they not know that pop is the midwestern name for sugary beverages? Even I know that pop is called soda and coke in other areas of the country.

Coke Zero and Dr Pepper 10. Sucked at first but zero calories and I eventually got used to it and now love it. Perfect for a diet. Been drinking it for years now. Since I'm so picky about my coffe so much that I only drink the coffe I make, I get a Mtn Dew before my 9am class so I'm not tired during it. Detonates like a caffine bomb and works great.

I do somewhat miss being able to push a couple buttons and have coffee in a few minutes, but there is no comparison in quality. It takes me about 15 minutes now, start to finish.

A few tips:

  • buy fresh beans (quality of course), and grind only what you're using as you use it.
  • you need a good quality burr mill grinder (this will cost a bit of money, but so worth it since consistant grind size is all important with a french press).
  • use pure water, not tap or spring water. Distilled is best for tasting only the coffee.
  • water temp is crucial; boil water, let it set for about 45 seconds, then pour into the press.
  • fin.

edit: there are other means of making superior coffee, but really none of them involve a machine. Unless we're talking espresso, which is another topic altogether.

Oh, and Starbucks is awful coffee.

but all-time favs are probably (no specific order)

Coke from a can -- fountain Coke is just not as good to me

A&W Root Beer -- everybody has their preferences in the root beer department (bitter vs. smooth), A&W is the smoothest to me and I enjoy it the most

Old Sprite -- doesn't exist anymore; used to be a very seperate taste from 7-UP, but now they're pretty similar.  I remember drinking a ton of it one summer when I was around 10 or 11.

Faygo Redpop -- used to have pink cows as a kid, Redpop + milk

Faygo Rock & Rye -- really nothing else like it

Faygo Creme Soda -- this was like crack to me as a kid

Dr. Pepper

sometimes I would have a craving for Faygo Grape -- the flavor is so fake, but I still enjoyed it

Vernors, of course

I've never been a big Mountain Dew drinker, but I expect there to be some hardcore Dew addicts in here somewhere

I always considered the ultra sugared modern versions mostly pop.  Whereas the old flavored soda's and/or soda waters were soda.

I believe some are pop and some are soda and the majority are misclassed.  That being said in STL I'm forced to say soda or be stared at like a social outcast from another planet.

It's unbelievable. 2nd place is a tie between a variety of Faygo flavors--cream soda, orange, red pop, grape. Has anyone ever had A-Treat soda? From Allentown, PA. My wife introduced me to it. They just went out of business, very sad. It was kind of like their Faygo, only they had even more flavors.

Dr. Pepper is my go-to

I also really like Coke with lime. Not available in cans anymore :( - the magical fountain stuff is decent, but not as good as the canned.
