Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy. I love when they do SC together
Least? Cowherd or Rome - edit: As mentioned below, Jemele Hill.
Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy. I love when they do SC together
Least? Cowherd or Rome - edit: As mentioned below, Jemele Hill.
My least favorite people employed by ESPN are Mark May and Pam Ward
He went to Michigan...
He fired Bobby V... :(
Pam Ward is the master of making absolutely any game seem dull.
Agreed. Any game Pam Ward calls is literally better with the sound turned off.
I do that as soon as I here her voice, then change it to another game.Unless it a Michigan game then I'll suffer through it.
That woman can ruin a football game, even one your winning.
Without question the most annoying to me is Stu Scott!!!
My favortie would have to be........... Mike Wilbon & Tony K. They at least know what they are talking about and make it fun to watch. I don't agree with all of their opinions but I do feel they are usually sound opinions.
I have a couple favorites and there are a few personalities who keep ESPN mellow.
Least favorite however I have to single out Cowherd and Rome. Both are arrogant and assholes. Never been a big fan of either.
Favorite Berman, IMO he is ESPN, not the best now but he is my all time fave
Least Favorite Lou Holtz, seriously who cleans up after this guy talks???
Berman, IMO he is ESPN, not the best
Stop right there, and I agreee. He represents ESPN and everything that is wrong with sports broadcasting/announcing.
Best: Rece Davis and Karl Ravech
Worst: John Kruk
Fav - woody paige (just funny) and then wilbon and tony k.
least - jemele "i am sure race is involved" hill
Best: Scott Van Pelt (hands down)
Worst: Jim Rome/Skip Bayless
couldn't come up with better candidates...well done sir
I wonder if Jim Rome would call jim Everrett Chris outside a study or if he looks back to see if he is coming for him still
Cowherd and Rome are terrible.
I have always liked Karl Ravech. I think he is underrated.
Like: Fowler, Cohn, Kornheiser, Wilbon
Dislike: Cowherd, Berman, Stephen A Smith, Stuart Scott
Quite frankly this is preposterous!
HOWEVA, I would like to note that he is not an ESPN analyst anymore
Agreed. I hate Stuart Scott. Everything is phat to him. I get the feeling that he thinks he's an all-world athlete himself that has achieved super-stardom.
Wilbon and Kornheiser do a nice job. Wilbon is the king of "What's the Word."
Least favorite: Pam Ward. Even if she wasn't so gaffe-prone, just the sound of her voice makes me want to throw babies into the ocean.
fave- Tirico (classy), Van Pelt (funny), Rece Davis (before the current "what if.." segments on College Football Live) DESMOND!
un-fave - Vitale, Berman (no more yelling, plz), Pam Ward (derf), Suzy Kolber (why can't her voice stop inflecting?)
also, it has been about 20 minutes since i heard Cowherd talk about the fact that there is no income tax in florida - does anyone know if this is still the case?
Favorites: DESMOND, Kornheiser and Wilbon
Least: Jim Rome
I like Van Pelt and Tirico as well, and I suppose my other favorite would be John Buccigross. He is one of two anchors (with Steve Levy) whose sport of choice is hockey (which I love) and I enjoy his NHL column (or "blogumn") and mailbag on espn.com during hockey season.
I also can't stand Rome and Cowherd, and if I had to throw another in the mix of "least favorite" it would be Skip Bayless. Is Bayless even still on that First Take show? Is the show still running?? I wouldn't know, I couldn't stand watching it with him on there.
EDIT: I kept thinking, and somehow I FORGOT about Rece Davis when I first posted...he is my favorite guy covering college football, and Desmond is a close 2nd. I have to give props to Rece not only b/c I think he does a great job, but he used to cover sports for ABC 12 out of Flint, where I hail from.
Favorite: Erin Andrews' boobs.
Least favorite: Pam Ward's boobs.
Least favorite: Chris Berman's boobs.
If you could go out with Erin Andrews, but only on the condition that you slept with Pam Ward first, would you agree to it?
Would anything be implied on my "going out with/date" with EA? Or would it just be a standard first date?
Is implied for some on their first date. I'm not going to say who...
more like a 3rd date girl... that's why I asked
she didn't talk, I could tolerate the torture. Though for torture, I would prefer a car battery, jumper cables and a wet sponge.
if you could sleep with EA but afterwards you had to hit PW, too.
There's no question - you see the outfits that Erin wore on Dancing with the Stars?
Look up the latter on your own...
Erin Andrews having slept with all (or at least most) of ESPN's TV personalities. Next time Erin Andrews is doing an on field report and doing her sign off, imagine this:
"I'm Erin Andrews and this is ESP..glog glog glog glog (the sound of Stu Scotts schlong in her mouth.)"
It always makes me laugh when I'm watching her reports...
Sounds pretty unanimous that Rome is a douchebag corksoaker.
Who's the little guy? Lee Corso! He's on ESPN, right. Plus One for him if I got that right.
That has to be the winner.
I prefer the term "cockjuggling thunder cunt" Anyone else watch weeds?
to say john anderson as my favorite. the man is poised and witty. josh elliot is a close second with his blatant sarcasm toward stupid news stories.
least favorite: so many to name, heres a short list. may, holtz, wilbon, bayless, cowerd,
I fully support your nomination of John Anderson, but I can't do the same for Josh Elliot. He seems condescending and snobby. He also lets his personal beliefs (politics, upbringing, way of life) bleed too much into his coverage, which is what I try to avoid with my sports viewing.
Favorite: that skank hooker Rachel Nichols. She looks like she could take a dick.
Least favorite: that skank hooker Rachel Nichols when she open her mouth (unless to take aforementioned dick).
Did I really just read this? smh
You mistyped "mlive.com"
Fav: Rob Stone
Least Fav: Vitale/Holtz
Favorite: Gameday Crew and Tim Kurkjian
Least Favorite: Marcellus Wiley and Skip Bayless, and it is not even close
Does that include Herbstreit? I like the rest of them but I've had enough of Herbie.
I don't mind Golic but Greenberg bugs the hell out of me.
I like Scott Van Pelt quite a bit -- especially his radio show. He's my favorite ESPN personality.
Cowherd, Rome, Mariotti, Plaschke, Scott, May, Palmer, Christ I could probably keep going forever.
If it wasn't for Holly Rowe being so fine I would never watch ESPN.
Christ was not an ESPN personality, but if he was I'm sure he wouldn't take kindly to you bashing him. Are we going to be seeing you in an upcoming Inferno-Canto?
The guy was never an athlete but he acts like just casually strolling through the desert in a pair of raggedy sandals qualifies him to talk about the NFL Draft or tell me how to fill out my NCAA bracket. Can't stand that dirty hippie.
Worst: Jay Mariotti
Favorite(s): Fowler, Desmond, Jalen Rose
How dare you badmouth my moon-faced angel!
I probably would have said pie-face but that just makes my girl Holly hungry.
Fowler and Van Pelt would be my favorites with Rece Davis close to those guys.
least favorite - Berman
Favorite: Barry Melrose (mullet+zuitsuits+hoser accent=just too funny to watch sometimes)
Least: Michael Irvin (i know he isnt on but i couldnt believe that espn actually let him be an on air personality. smoking crack doesnt develop much ground breaking football insight. great athlete, terrible everything else)
Surprised more people haven't said Stephen A. Smith (I think only one person has mentioned him so far) He's absolutely the worst. Not only does he yell too much, but his comments seem far too racist at times for my liking. It pains me to watch him. Colin Cowherd comes in a close second and it appears I'm not that only one that thinks that on this board.
While we're on the topic of ESPN and what we don't like. Am I the only one that gets ticked college football takes a second fiddle to the NFL on ESPN? You can have a crazy day of college football but come Monday, all the talk is about the NFL. Shows that I tend to enjoy for my daily sports news (albeit, only if I can TiVo it), Around the Horn and PTI always brush-over the college games and spend 75% of the time on NFL in the fall.
Steven A. is no longer with ESPN. i don't like him either.
Good to know! Found the article:
Stephen A. Smith, an ESPN reporter and once a rising star who had his own show called "Quite Frankly With Stephen A.Smith" on ESPN2, is leaving the station as of May 1.
Favorites; Berman, Van Pelt, Howard, and Beadle (she's not that good, but for whatever reason I like her)
Least favorites; Cowherd (God! he's terrible, has he ever been right?), Wilbon's co-host on PTI, Rome, probably more, but I'm drawing a blank right now.
I think I have an idea of why you like Michelle Beadle
a slightly saner/less attractive (on a good day) Brittney Spears?
Britney Spears ... what is she doing with her life?!?
that's a pretty big factor in why I like her, but outside of her looks there is just something about her. She makes sportsnation almost tolerable, which isn't an easy job considering her co-host.
I agree, there is something about her (other than looks) that just works for Sportsnation, which really isn't a very good show, but she does succeed in making it watchable. That has to mean something since Cowherd is also on that show.
Favorite: Scott VanPelt and Kenny Mayne. I also like the PTI guys and basically all the ESPN in their prime Sports Center people (Stu Scott used to be better, but as others have said, Rece Davis, Dan Patrick were all good)
Least Favorite: Basically all of around the horn besides Woody and Reali (who I don't mind), anyone on first and 10 (besides the girl host, she went to Michigan so I can't hate), and Mark May
Favorite - Erik Kuselias, Adam Schefter, Desmond Howard, Jalen Rose
Least - Colin Cowherd
Favorites: Jay Crawford and Mike Wilbon
Least: Scoop Jackson, for letting Skip stampede him every single time they meet up on First Take, and never doing anything about it.
ESPN used to have a more personal connection before they tried to conquor the entire universe. Ever since they started bringing on the likes of Cowherd, Rome, Stephen A Smith, and the biggest asshole to ever garner air-time, Rob Parker, my time dedicated to watching has diminished considerably.
I love Game Day and think Chris Fowler does a great job. I like Herbstriet and of course, Hiesmond. I'm also a huge fan of Todd Blackledge and Mike Patrick's broadcasts and I won't watch Mike and Mike in the morning.
Scott Van Pelt, John Anderson, Stan Verrett, Steve Levy and John Buccigross are enjoyable
Stewart Scott, Neil Everett, and Sage Steele are NOT enjoyable.
At least Sage is easy on the eyes. Stewie & Neil, not so much.
Wasn't Sage Steele the brainiac that made an on-air reference to the "dog pound" at Michigan Stadium? I recall Brian linking to the video
I don't know the actual woman's name, but I remember seeing that as well, and I know it wasn't Sage. Whoever that person was, my guess is she is either not working for ESPN anymore, or else she's been permanently re-assigned to a dark corner surrounded by filing cabinets. That kind of idiocy is rare, even for ESPN "talent"
Faves: Tirico, Fowler, Herbie, Corso (he's a buffoon but I love the guy), and believe it or not, I like Mark May too. Everybody seems to hate him, but I like watching him.
Dan Patrick is the very definition of self-satisfied smuggery.
who does a NFL football show on ESPN radio, I just like how he runs his show, how he sounds.
Worst - Cowherd. His commentary is only given to arouse passion, but I find his voice just grates me anyways; he could be telling people what a fine guy I am and I would change the station.
Favorites: Rece Davis, Chris Fowler, hell I'll even thrown in Kirk Herbstreit even though he is a buckeye. Uhh...Scott Van Pelt definitely gets in the mix here. I watch Lou Holtz just to see him spit and sputter his way to a proclamation of Notre Dame taking home the National Championship. \
If you wanna talk about broadcasters, I'm becoming a big fan of Sean McDonough especially after last year's epic game against Notre Dame game.
Least: PAM WARD, PAM WARD, PAM WARD. Colin Cowherd. Bill Plaschke. I actually don't like that many people on Around The Horn.
Who is the one college football broacast team that did the 2008 Michigan/Miami (OH) game...I can hear their voices in my head but can't remember their names. But they are boring.
I'm shocked Stu Scott isn't running away with "least favorite." No one blows an athlete or coach in an interview like Stu Scott. When the news broke that ESPN would air "The Decision," you didn't even have to tell me that Stu Scott was going to host it. The only shock was that he wasn't going to be the one interviewing Lebron. I guess Lebron like 'em to play a little hard to get.
Adam Schefter? That man is money on the NFL reports. Also like Wilbon (excluding everything he says about Michigan and soccer, he's a giant blowhard on those subjects).
Least: Berman. You were great in 1995 when I was 9 years old. Nowadays, please go BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK the **** off my TV.
Schefter's also a Michigan alumn with a mini Maize helmet that's visibile over his left shoulder in his office.
Also a Northwestern alumn FWIW.
Favorites: Cowherd (I understand why everyone hates him but I think he gets the reality of being a sports celebrity), I love Spielman, Tirico, and Hannah "you are never too old to wear a short skirt) Storm.
Least Favorites: Pam Ward, Skip Bayless, and LeBron...wait he is a part of ESPN, right?
Fav: Erin Andrews (of course), Skip Bayless, Tommy Smyth (cool accent)
Least Fav: Colin Cowherd , Scott Van Pelt
Oh and have you ever noticed you never see John Clayton's whole body
How can anyone hate Van Pelt?
is of course, Desmond Howard.......least favorite is Jim Rome......I see a lot of people down on Pam Ward...why doesn't anyone like this guy? And who names their son Pam?
Dude, seriously, not cool.
That is very offensive. I, too, am a man with a girls name and it is not easy. I'm sure Pam has had to explain why he has a girls name all his life just like me.
Favorites: Mike Tirico, Scott Van Pelt.
Least favorites: Jim Rome. Even on radio I cannot stand him. He's like the clone of the biggest douchebag.
Second, we may be talking about TV personalities, but I'm saying Bill Simmons anyway.
Van Pelt is the best. I like most of the college football guys-Fowler, Davis, Corso, and usually even Herbstreit. There are alot of bad ones-Bayless, Hill, Ward, and worst of all, Cowherd.
Love Herbie on TV, but he makes me want to throw my controller in NCAA 11. Yes, I'm running up the score on MSU, and no, I don't care if you think it's not classy.
Worst: May, Ward, Golic, Kornheiser (the guy just annoys me to death), Berman and Rome.
Favorites: Van Pelt, Corso, Fowler, Reid, Herbstreit's ok, Melrose ,Buccigross, Lee, Howard
Favorite - Chris Fowler
Least Favorite - Mark May
I actually like Mark May. I just like everyone associated with College Football minus a few of the broadcasters
The personalities I like are Scott Van Pelt, Tirico, Beadle, some of their NBA announcers, plus Spielman for college football (even though he's an OSU guy, I liked him on the Lions and he seems to have the right amount of knowledge for an in-booth guy). Herbstreit is fine when he is on Gameday and not talking out of his butt, but that Miles-to-Michigan bomb soured me a bit on him.
As for hate, pretty much everyone else. It used to be a fun network with some personality, but now it is a bunch of good-looking people with limited sports knowledge mugging for the camera and former players/coaches who cannot speak extemporaneously to save their lives.
Hate most- Mark May (sp)?
My favorite is Stewat Scott, and I really have no idea why. He just doesnt annoy me.
And my least favorite is Buster Olney. I cant stand his voice when he talks.
I'm a pretty huge fan of Tony Reali. He has the easiest job at ESPN
mentioning of Desmond, the guy does a really solid job despite obvious biases, Tirico os solid as is Bob Knight when he decides to do games for them
Least favorite: Kirk Herbstreit especially when he tries to be a reporter, Pammy, and SVP... get over yourself man.
I'm a huge fan of Colin Cowherd, Scott Van Pelt and Chris Berman.
Stu Scott annoys the crap out of me.
Best - Wilbon (except he hates Michigan), runner up Van Pelt or Melrose
Worst - Cowherd, Rome, Scott and the entire cast of Around the Horn (minus paige when he is on) and any anchor on ESPN News
FAVORITE: Ron Franklin
LEAST FAVORITE: Mike Patrick, Chris Berman (tie)
Favorites: van pelt, tirico, bill simmons... I miss jason whitock and dan patrick
Least: pam ward, berman, stuart scott, wilbon, cowherd, rome, mariotti, woody paige, bill plaschke, kornheiser, Mike golic, mike greenberg, skip bayless, anytime drew sharp's ugly mug shows up, mike lupica, jamele hill... I'm sure there are more. ESPN sucks.
Pam Ward is by far the worst. It's apparent ESPN only has her to keep the feminists happy. She's so bad my 11 year old brother once corrected her on one of her many mistakes.
Like: Mike and Mike
Hate: Cowherd, what the hell is he going to talk about now? He can't blow USC and Pete Carrol every 5 min anymore. That dude can turn a coversation about peanut farming into how great SC is.
By far, my least favorite is the Master of the Obvious, Mr. Joe Morgan. He takes all the Sunday Night Baseball games to an unbearable level not even reached by Mr. Pam Ward. Oh, and I don't know if you've heard, but he's in the Hall of Fame. It's a shame he never mentions it on the air.
In no particular order
Worst: Jim Rome, Bill Plaschke, Colin Cowherd, Trevor Matich
Best: Erin Andrews, Michelle Beadle, Tony Kornheiser
Best: Kenny Mayne
Worst: Skip Bayless, the most annoying human being on the planet
Love to watch: Mike Tirico, Michael Wilbon, Erin Andrews, Cindy Brunson & Suzy Kolber
Want to see get hit by a bus: Dan LeBatard, Skip Bayless, Colin Cowherd, Tony Reali, for starters.
As much as I don't like Jim Rome, I just don't think anyone is worse than Pam Ward
Is Rob Parker still on 1st Take, or whatever that abortion of a show is called? Anyone who writes a column that starts with "Hank Aaron is a coward" automatically goes in the "Hit by a bus" pile.
I mean, right off the OP, Tirico, who lives (lived?) in Ann Arbor with his wife is a helluva nice guy. And really, all the great hate have been listed. Stuart Scott might lead my list, if anyone is making a tally...but there are so many. And then there's the whole "Erin Andrews" category. Along those lines-
I actually like Cowherd and listen to the Herd as much as possible. SVP is another favorite of mine.
Rome is horrible. On the radio he never says anything about sports and most of his time BSing with e-mails and saying stuff that makes very little sense. Plus there are the times when I think I lost the radio station because he doesn't talk and there's just silence.
Wut ever happened to Stump the Schaub? I fawkin hated that guy so much. What a douche.
Fave? Probably LINDA CONE BONE.
Faves: Scott Van Pelt, Adam Schefter, Josh Elliot
Least faves: Joe Morgan, John Kruk, Bill Plaschke
Favorites: Rome (not b/c of JRIB which I don't really watch but I'm a huge fan of the Jungle), Bill Simmons, Lou (obviously), Mark May (he hates ND but he just cracks me up for some reason, great schtick), Current MNF booth, SVP, Rece Davis, Ron Franklin
Least: Most everyone else but especially Berman, Cowherd, Le Batard, Pam Ward, Kornheiser (when he was on MNF), Stu Scott, Jemele Hill, Rob Parker, John Saunders, Mike Lupica, Mitch Albom, Rick Reilly to name a few...
It appears that I'm late, but I'll add my 2 cents anyways.
Favorites: Chris Fowler (besides college football, I like his coverage of tennis), Reece Davis, John Anderson
Worst: The whole concept and everyone on Around the Horn, and (which is probably an unpopular pick, given all the comments above) Mike Tirico, who just rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
Like: Scott Van Pelt, Jay Harris, Kornheiser, Rece Davis, Dat Dude, Desmond, Jalen
Dislike: John Saunders (for the brawl), Chris Berman (douche), Stu Scott (faux ghetto)
Hate: Cowherd, most of the Around the Horn crew, Jim Rome, Skip Bayless,
