OT: Favorite football movie?
Just rewatched "Any Given Sunday" for the umpteenth time. Love that film's camera shots, it's gritty realism, and Al Pacino's speech at the end. That Jamie Foxx can ball.
Hoping to get another few football movies in before Saturday. Any recommendations?

Scott Bakula. Funny movie. Grid Iron Gang is pretty good, too.

Head Coach: "Show us the arm, son."

Asst. Coach: "Throw the ball, genius!"

I admit that I always have enjoyed "Necessary Roughness" if for no other reason than I want to see this actually called before I pass on:

but I think this is one of the best real life examples out there...

"Don't throw it to stone hands". I must admit I have soft spot for Necessary Roughness as well.

Probably the funniest of all time. "Throw it to Jack!"...

Remember the Titans....
Or if you want some laughs, The Little Giant's is a classic

Also, The Replacements, is good for some laughs as well.

Friday Night Lights, the TV series, is amazing and a must-watch for any football fan out there. As far as movies go, it has to be Remember the Titans.

Friday Night Lights, The Longest Yard isn't bad, and Remember the Titans is amazing.

Longest Yard
Friday Night Lights movie and show wasn't bad but The Longest Yard is my fav.
Slap Shot is the best sports movie ever

We are Marshall. It makes me a little emotional.

I like all those mentioned. I'll throw in The Program as well. Varsity Blues is a classic, too.

Surprised it took 10 posts for someone to mention that. It'd be like saying "what's your favorite basketball movie" and Blue Chips being that far down the list.

Screw the Irish and everything, but it's a great movie. I don't care what teams you like/hate.

Loved it as a kid. Still love it today. Probably the root of my closet ND fetish. Although after going to the 2010 and 2012 games in South Bend they can shove it.

Air Bud: Golden Receiver, the excellent and far superior sequel to Air Bud.

North Dallas Forty and The Slaughter Rule. Both explored aspects of football culture that media had largely ignored. And the acting in The Slaughter Rule (not to mention the superb soundtrack) was fantastic.

You know, because of the realism. Also, probably based on a true story.

The part where the guy pulls out a gun and starts shooting defenders is one of the most unintentionally funny moments I have ever experienced.

#1: We Are Marshall -- one of the only football movies that I have ever seen which seemed like a realistic depiction of the sport. Especially college football, which is its own special animal. That movie is the definition of why we watch sports movies.
#2: Wildcats. -- Call me nuts, but I absolutely fucking love this movie. Great cast of actors in it. Funny as hell.

Agreed.
I thought the remake had it's moments and the football footage was good, but the original is just so much better.

Painless: [lining up during football game] All right, Bub, your fuckin' head is coming right off.
[the first use of the word "fuck" in a major motion picture]
-----------------------
[a gun goes off at the football game]
Hotlips O'Houlihan: Oh my God! They've shot him!
Colonel Blake: Hot Lips, you incredible nincompoop! It's the end of the quarter.
------------------------
Colonel Blake: Football game?
Gen. Hammond: Yeah, yeah, we put up a few bets, five thousand maybe, and have a little fun. Special services in Tokyo says it's one of the best gimmicks we've got to keep the American way of life going here in Asia.
Colonel Blake: Betting?
Gen. Hammond: No, football.
------------------------
Colonel Blake: [to Spearchucker Jones at the football practice] I had another idea. I think we should have some plays. You know, usually in football you have some organized plays...
Spearchucker: If you don't mind, I took the liberty.
Colonel Blake: Oh, you have...
Spearchucker: I drew up about seven or eight plays. I figure that's about all this bunch can handle.
Colonel Blake: Oh, these are good. These are very good. Uh, what are these little arrows?
