OT - Favorite "30 for 30"s thus far?

Submitted by blueadams on
In case you haven't noticed, there's an all day "30 for 30" marathon that's been going on ESPN classic all day. I haven't been able to get myself off the couch since this morning. I've loved every episode/short film I've seen (favorite thus far is the ali/holmes fight, very sad)...but I know that I've missed so many. First question - what have been some of your favorites? Second question - is there a place where these can be downloaded online...for free?

I've loved them all but I would have to say the USFL one, which surprised me b/c I hadn't thought twice about the USFL. DVR them all my man! Merry Christmas

...but I think the best one was "Without Bias", even though it was the saddest of the 30 for 30's, it did a great job of showing how Len Bias' death affected the entire area surronding College Park.

As sad as it was it really had a very important story to tell about both fighters legacy's. The U was good too except I felt there was a lot of twisting. And almost as good was the Jimmy the Greek film.

My vote is for The U. Very entertaining and kept my attention for two hours (which is hard to do). I would have put Without Bias as my #1, but I don't feel the doc answered enough questions. Most notably, "How the hell did Len Bias score nearly pure cocaine if he had only done it a couple of times before?".

For someone who wasn't not around for the whole thing, living it through the tv was much better then hearing small bits from others. What a terrible story, the fact that his brothers life ended so soon was a result of the whole situation, which was sad to see as well. I just didn't know the whole thing went so deep so it was nice to see it all.

The Ali/Holmes one sticks with me, because beyond Ali's true tragedy, it really shows Holmes as a likeable guy, not the villain of the piece. The U was the most entertaining, just because it made you feel how you felt then...if you loved them you loved them still...if you hated them... It felt like a bit of a whitewashing, sure, but they never really denied they were big cheaters...just sorta short changed it. But nearest to my heart was the USFL...ah, the Michigan Panthers... As the above poster mentions, the end of the Bias one left me with more questions than answers.

U and USFL were great and by far my favorite. ESPN really displayed what each of them were about and were great documentaries. Hopefully ESPN releases 30 for 30 on DVD or something, i would definately buy it.
