OT: FA on Buckeye Baseball

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on
I got suckered into a guest post on BuckeyeStateBaseball, a site dedicated to all Ohio college baseball. It's run by the guy that runs BuckeyeNine, and I help him out occasionally with HTML formatting. It's a solid site if your into the whole college baseball thing. In it I break down their offensive statistics, and then wonder what the hell Bob Todd is taking. The guy is batting a 3-hole hitter lead off. Won't switch his lineup around much because he wants to hit batters L-R-L-R down the lineup. Just bat shit, lose to NAIA and DII crazy.

... they are clearly not the same team as last year. They were getting torn up on Rivals.com baseball boards this weekend. Just so everyone understands the scope of the Webber (NAIA) loss, here's my favorite post from one of those threads: "First of all, as I posted in another thread, Webber is a mediocre program by NAIA standards. We have a fall scout team of high school seniors in this area that plays all of the local colleges, and they regularly thrash Webber. They just lost a series to the Savannah College of Art and Design. They do not play good baseball down there in Babson Park. Secondly, I know several people who were there, and they said Ohio State was just terrible and unathletic. Seven different Webber pitchers - none of whom had anywhere better to go - shut the Buckeyes down. I know there are bad losses, but Webber would finish 3rd in the local 5A high school district. Something bad is going on with that OSU program."

No disagreement. They lost throwing their 3rd starter and letting 3 of their subs play who have little playing time. That's no excuse. Nor is it that they just finished playing 7 games in 7 days. The team, from what I hear, just hates Todd. The guy is so weird. He's the only coach on the planet that doesn't release the names of the recruits he's signed. He hates batting two of the same handed players in a row when he can put someone in *cough* Streng *cough* otherwise. He schedules the easiest cream puffs he can and one good mid-week game. Thinks he can get a regional bid by beating no one and hopefully winning the Big Ten. They couldn't even beat the cream puffs this year. Then he goes and throws Eric Best, one of their top pitchers from last year 4 times including a start in those 7 games, this just 3 weeks after he's come back from off season surgery on his arm. And you want to talk people burning their arms out, OSU lost a player last year mid season, lost Best over the off season, and lost a good reliever right before this season started. The guy runs through arms like nothing. The Buckeyes have plenty of athletic ability, and they'll turn it on come Big Ten play, but man do they dislike their coach. It's not even current players either. Nick Swisher won't give a dime to the program until Todd is gone from what I hear.

Why do you know enough about Buckeye baseball to craft such a post? Aren't you in school? I envy your free time.

Compiling the statistics took about 7 hours, maybe another hour or two to manipulate them. I've read enough over the Buckeyes for the last two years to have a decent idea what I was talking about otherwise. But yeah, I found out I had a minor (is there such a thing?) research paper due yesterday about half way through the day. I would have liked that 10 or so hours on that post back.
