[Ed:S: Thread locked. It seems this was a coordinated terrorist attack. As of 7:04pm there are about 40 dead and rumored 100 taken hostage from a metal concert. France has closed its borders.

Comments have been disabled partly because early comments that were a bad idea looked like atrocious ideas once the scope of this became known. Also because some people have some very weird ideas about what goes on in other countries.]

A gunman using an automatic gun opened fire at the Cambodge restaurant in the capital's 11th district. BFMTV says at least seven people were injured.

Liberation newspaper says a number of people have been killed. There is no official confirmation.

Another attack - an explosion - is reported to have targeted a bar near Stade de France.

A BBC journalist at the scene says he can see 10 people on the road either dead or seriously injured.

I vote on my first reaction.  I laughed, and then I cringed after social norms and such kicked in.  Hopefully it's a contained situation... RIP to those who were lost.  Maybe one day these types of shitty things will stop happening here and around the world, although sadly I don't think any of us will be around to see it.

changed before our eyes.  Over 200k+ a month are emigrating to Europe from Africa and Middle East and Europe won't be able to withstand this much longer.  The EU called for an emergency immigration meeting earlier this week.  They may suspend or cancel the free movement between EU nations because the flow of refugees is straining their resources.

The vast vast majority of the people flooding in are just looking for a better life. In the event the terrorist(s) are found to be Muslim and/or immigrants a huge number of refugees just looking to live quietly will be affected. You can bet neo-nazi groups are seeing a healthy bump in membership lately. Basically a bunch of dicks on either side are going to ruin it for everyone else

While what you say is definitely true, that is not the root cause of Europe's changing demographics. Europe by and large did this to themselves with the immigration policies of the 50s and 60s when, during the "economic miracle," they allowed millions of Muslims from North Africa and Turkey to come in and provide cheap labor. So when France is majority Muslim in 20 or 30 years (or maybe sooner), they will blame illegal immigrants (and do so now), but that will be only a small part of the story...

France has a healthy birth rate. You're probably thinking of Germany. People of Muslim origin are thought to be around 10 percent of France's population. They're not going to be the majority in 20 years. There's a lot of misinformation on this subject. There is , however, a concern that a small portion of French Muslims have become radicalized, and it doesn't take that many to set of an attack.

France doesn't ask questions about race or religion on its census, so precise data isn't out there. The nonwhite birth rate might be higher than the average but probably not drastically so. France has a lot of family-friendly laws and you do see a lot of kids out and about in the towns, in contrast to Germany to Italy where you really don't see many. The difference in the overall birth rates is pretty noticeable.

You either are a hermit or have never been on the internet if you truly think I am the most "uninformed person" you have ever read.

I was corrected on my inaccurate statements. I admitted that I was once I was shown to be in the  wrong.

You have revealed yourelf to be a horse' s ass so utterly deficit intellectually that you cannot write a response showing why my statements were wrong. Good job, jackass.

What's happening now is unprecidented.  A quarter a million a month coming to Europe with no end in sight is changing the face of Europe now.  Not past policies in the 50's or 60's.  Dave Cameron took alot of grief from some EU nations for his hardline stance on not taking in the refugees but stood his ground.  What's happening in France now is not due to polices of the European nations 60+ years ago.  It's created from the war, povetry and strife in Africa and the Middle East currently.

Well, no need to turn this into a debate in this context, but France does not allow religion to be asked in their official census. So the number of 8% you cite above is from a comparatively small sample derived from survey data collected by an independent research agency. The "real" number has been quoted as high as 15% or more. And given differences in birth rates in France, it is certainly possible that Muslims as the largest religious group in France by 2050, whether a majority or not. But demographic projections are virtually impossible, so no one really knows...

It can be, but these types of things always grab headlines because they're shocking.  I shy away from the news these days because it's 95% depressing bullshit.  They rarely report on a lot of the good people do.  I still believe most people are inherently good, but the 1% of shitheads out there can sure fuck things up for the rest of us.

Europe is dealing with big immigration issues. Yet, like the US, immigrants flock to EU countries because their homelands are so f'd up the maniacs their drive there own people out or they a abuse and butcher them.

Then the abused in their own homeland immigrants want to practice their homeland culture in their new country, and get angry when the citizens there say, no, this is our culture, you came here because your country was not good enough for you, so assimilate or go back.

What a f ups world.

They just lost a major battle to the Kurds in Iraq (backed by US airpower), following another major loss to Assad (backed by Russian airpower) in Syria. In the former, their fighters fled, even though the leadership said deserters would be executed. Staging attacks against unnarmed civilians is how groups like that project "strength" to their fanboys, especially at a moment of military weakness.
