Rex Ryan is the reason that defense is competent; hiring the LB coach seems foolish considering you have no idea just how important he has been to the success.

He has done a very good job with the Jets LB's has recieved great praise from the staff for his work with the Jets this year. That being said he has not had success as a DC yet so its a risk for them.

excuse me for overlooking that, I was basing it off of living in Atlanta and seeing him as the Falcons DC and at Auburn. My mistake for forgetting about the Georgia stint. No need for the aggresive wording......

Perhaps noteworthy is that VanGorder is part of the Kelly coaching tree, if there is such a thing. He was the defensive coordinator at Grand Valley State University when Kelly was there, and indeed, he was also the head coach of Wayne State here in Detroit for a couple years as well. His Wiki page, if accurate, shows that in most cases he has no been at any job more than a couple years.
