As a die hard Clevelander, screw him. Did he really just go on national TV and stab is hometown in the back, classless piece of scum. He will never be welcome back to "home" again. I'm distraught, pissed, upset, and ugh i cant even think. LeBron's legacy to me, quit in game 5 of playoffs, quit on this city, quit on the organization, and quit of "home". Fuck him.
Cleveland isn't his hometown, it's Akon, and no, he doesn't owe them anything, because he gave Cleveland his all for 7 years and they failed to give him the pieces to build a championship contender.

I seriously don't get this whole stab-in-the-back/betrayal thing. He was under contract, he played like a badass for the entire duration of his contract, and he represented himself and the organization extremely well the entire time. Seriously, are Cavs fans just upset that he's leaving or is there some legitimate reason for all the betrayal talk?
Guys. No matter what you say, if the Pistons had a homegrown superstar who grew up in, say, Pontiac (because, you know, it isn't Detroit! It's Pontiac! Just like Akron isn't Cleveland!), and went on national tv and did this, you'd be fucking pissed too. Don't act so damn condescending. And you'd be making the "kicking us while we're down economically" arguments, too. Or someone would. Maybe Mitch Albom, but he's an asshat.
I'm not from Cleveland or any part of Ohio, have no family there, never go to Ohio, hate the state so much that the only place in Ohio I've ever been to is Toledo, and am not a Cavs fan. But if people can't understand why they're a little distraught, I think they're being intentionally obtuse. Also throw in no championships in pro sports in 50 years or so. And the fact that he went on NATIONAL TELEVISION to do this. It's like your famous girlfriend dumping you on national tv after you've tried everything you could to make her happy, to leave you for a younger, richer guy who doesn't love her like you did. Heat fans will never love Lebron like Cavs fans did and/or would've if he'd stayed.
It's one thing to be disappointed or even pissed off (if I were a Cavs fans I'd be disappointed), but it's not like Lebron spent the last 7 years sleeping with everyone's mother in Cleveland. The vitriol just seems a bit much.

Point taken. But to be fair, Lebron hasn't said anything disparaging about Cleveland, as far as I know. I would have been annoyed/pissed at Boren for leaving for OSU, but I hate him more for his attitude on his way out than simply his leaving. But fair enough, you have brought the fandom effect into pretty sharp relief.
Also, that Rogers comment was meant to be a joke. I wasn't seriously comparing Rogers leaving the Lions to Lebron leaving Cleveland. I have to work on my internet sarcasm, sorry.

As much as I hate basketball and could give two shits less about this waste of air time. I have to admit that an athlete taking less money to win a championship is quite impressive. I thought for sure he would take the money and stay home. I'm still in shock in this decision, I'm impressed morally that they're all willing to do this.

...except now ESPN will spend the next 6 months trying to figure out how the Heat will be able to have enough basketball to go around? Who will sacrifice part of their game? Can they steal Phil Jackson from the Lakers(because nobody can sooth ego's better than the Phil)?
The only thing I hate about this is that it's Miami. The biggest fair weather sports fans. Never show up to Heat games. Never even show up to the "U" games.
It's kind of like an absurd joke: what I consider to be the worst sports city in the country (at least in terms of big cities with multiple teams) becomes the center of basketball pretty much overnight.
