I love the idea of Cincinnate playing Florida. What about Cincinnate vs. TCU? That would be your third place game, just like the old days in your recreational city league.
Championship:
2 Texas vs. 1 Alabama
Consulation game:
3 TCU vs. 4 Cincinnati
5 Boise State (automatic 5th place due to blue field)

While a Cincy-TCU game would be fantastic on about a million levels, not the least of which is the possibility of an AP national championship being awarded, Cincy hasn't proven they can travel or draw ratings like Boise did in their last Fiesta Bowl berth.

Yeah that's how I figured it'd shake out.
And what's interesting me about that is if you were to rank the conferences this year, it'd be something like this:
- SEC and Pac 10 as 1/2. I think you could make a case for either one and I actually think Pac 10 is slightly better at this point.
- Big 12
- Big East (although their not that far behind, as b12 is down this year)
- Big 10
- ACC
So what's funny to me is the 2 conferences that are getting 2 teams in are the SEC and..... the Big 10?
I think Iowa is getting lucky here b/c they're the 2 loss team that has the least recent loss... Usually in the polls, after a loss is when team takes a hit, and so all the teams that were ahead of Iowa that just so happened to lose in games that were after Iowa's most recent loss ended up dropping and Iowa ended up rising though they've been idle.
There are several 3 loss teams that I think are better than Iowa, and also half the Pac 10, but b/c Iowa is 10-2 they're sneaking in. Them vs. Ga. Tech though should actually be a good game if Stanzi is back... I know he got injured, but IIRC he'll be back on time for the bowl game.
Overall I really like the matchups though. All those games should be really fun to watch.

This is the best game. It is also a great cop-out for the BCS folks as the game will prove nothing. I was really hoping for each of these teams to spank someone in their bowl games and create better controversy. Can you imagine the S*** Storm that would ensue if Cincy, TCU, Boise, and Bama all crushed their opponents? It could set up the most convincing 4 team field for a playoff ever!

Stanzi is not as good as Vandenburg IMO, so I don't know if he would make much of an improvement if he was back.
My origional point is that with an admittedly slow, but very disciplined and physical defense, they would be able to stack the box with eight and hold down Thomas with Speivey and a safety. With good coaching and a lot of time, the triple-option is not as hard to stop if you have the right tools.

But I wanted Iowa to play a really good spread team, just because that Iowa guy came on here and argued that their defense could stop any spread in a thread not so long ago, and figured we could see how they do against a really good one.

I don't like the idea of TCU-Boise St again. I'd much rather see TCU play Florida this year. I think this TCU team can definitely give the traditional powerhouses a good battle and I'd love to see it.

BCS- Texas-Bama
Rose- OSU-Oregon
Fiesta- Boise-TCU
Orange- Cincy-Georgia Tech
Sugar- Florida-Penn St.
I think the orange bowl would want an undefeated Cincy over a 2 loss Iowa. Then I think the sugar bowl would take Penn St over Iowa, Joe Pa and Penn St have some history in the sugar bowl.
Having said that, what SHOULD happen is have TCU play Bama in the NC. Texas got lucky and won by 1 point to beat a team that can't even score a touchdown. Just using the good old eye ball test I think TCU is better than Texas. But unfortunately the voters will end up putting Texas in.

Is a win for the Gators hands down. Penn State hasn't played a team with the likes of Florida yet and they probably wouldn't last long. Florida will win their bowl if they play Cincy, Iowa or Penn State.

Hmmm...Sugar gets first replacement pick (Fla), then Fiesta (I'm guessing they're projecting TCU), but after that, yeah, Orange should have the first pick. And Iowa doesn't make a lot of sense vs. All these undefeated teams. Unless they're worrying about a non-tradition power city college not traveling...? Anyone remember how U-C did last year?

I will be pretty unhappy if TCU and Boise State play each other. I saw that game last year when a worse TCU than this year's played a better Boise team than this year's, and beat them in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Please match up Boise and TCU with AQ schools. Please, please.

I hate the Boise-TCU matchup. Unbeaten "outsider" against unbeaten outsider proves what, exactly? The real fun is watching them take on the BCS league teams, like the Boise-Oklahoma game a few years ago.

It would come down to Big 10 at-large versus Boise State. There are reasons to think it could have gone either way. I would lean to thinking they would take a Big 10 team to put fans in the seats.

With the recent success of the program it is hard to believe that Boise State wouldn't travel. they play football like Division II teams play. They leave everything on the field, just like the Oklahoma game a couple of years ago. That's what you want to watch during bowl games. I don't think Iowa would bring more fans, and right now the reputation of the big ten is down. That doesn't help Iowa's cause if it comes to those at-large teams.

This is what annoys the hell out of me about the bowl system. Teams can be and often are penalized not because of what they've done on the field but because of the number of fans they have.

The ACC champ automatically goes to the Orange Bowl, so you'd have to move GT over in your predictions. But I'm also not a fan of the TCU-BSU pairing, especially since they just played last year. Match Boise against Iowa in the Fiesta Bowl and TCU against GT in Miami. Better games and more eyeballs on the screens (I think.)

Traditionally, the Orange Bowl prefers Florida teams whenever they can to sell more tickets. The ACC tie-in was supposed to take care of that for them because FSU and Miami were supposed to win every year, but that isn't happening lately. If Florida is still available when they pick, I can't see them taking Cincy. And, though Florida may seem like a lock for the Sugar Bowl by virtue of its "next in line" status to Alabama, the Sugar Bowl isn't obligated to take the second-place SEC team as its host when the SEC is in the NC game. This would be similar to the situation that allowed Texas to play in the Rose Bowl.
I could see the Sugar Bowl taking one of the undefeated teams as its host this year, if they think the team "travels" good enough. I think TCU would be a good pick for their host because of the controversy their supporters will create over whether they "deserve" to play in the NC game. That would leave the Orange Bowl, who has first pick this year after the host and NC teams are determined, a chance to pick Florida.
If Florida does get into the Orange Bowl, it will definitely sell out. You can't really guarantee that with any of the other teams playing GT.

I don't think the Fiesta or any bowl, will want to pit TCU, and Boise St.
Even if the teams will travel well to The Fiesta Bowl, the Presidents would be worried about the television ratings that might in their imaginations be too low.
Real college fans will tune in, but many would see the match up and think its the GMAC Bowl. Especially with the game in Fox hands where it won't be hyped appropriately.

back in may/june, there were several threads around here about the filling out of the 2010 football slate. boise came up a few times and in the ensuing back and forths, I supported playing Boise and said basically, that I dont think there is one Big 10 team, other than OSU, that would win at Boise State. I was speaking retroactively and looking back at the 2008 season. I will say I feel the exact same way now that 2009 is in the books.
I've repeated it before whenever the topic comes up.
If they play PSU or Iowa, well then, we'll find out just how much I've been smoking, wont we?

As much as I want TCU and Boise in the BCS, I don't want to see them play each other. I want to see each vs. "a big boy." Don't get me wrong, it'd be an awesome game, but I think both against a BCS conference team would be more interesting.

When I might have root for an Ohio State in a Rose Bowl. However in light of the last two football seasons I will be rooting for another Buckeye BCS FAIL and for the NATTI to win out as besat team in OHIO. Then I want Brian Kelly to morph into Charlie Weis Junior at ND as he throws kickers, assisstants and the student body under the bus.

With the National Title game and the Rose Bowl pretty much set in stone, this is what I hope they do matchup-wise in the other games.
Fiesta: Iowa vs. Boise State
Sugar: TCU vs. Florida (I hope they split up Boise and TCU and if so I think this creates the most competitive match-ups)
Orange: Cincinnati vs. Georgia Tech (offensive shootout for the ages with great contrast in styles)
