OT: Error 503 Backend fetch failed

Submitted by The_Mad Hatter on

Besides sounding kinda dirty, I've been seeing this error a lot today.

I assume it is a server capacity issue, due primarily to several thousand of us F5ing incessantly all day long.

I'm wondering if this site has dedicated servers, like in Brian's basement, or if it uses a cloud service?

Either way, I propose some sort of fundraiser to increase the server capacity.  Any ideas?

/had to stop thinking about the CC for a min.

My understanding is that this more or less points to capacity problems causing a failure of content being called from the site - network problems, router failover, dropped data or too many of us waiting for the next Harbaugh rumor basically. The number of connections is simply too damn high, or something like that.

something to consider is the cost of purchasing, configuring, implementing and then maintaining another server. If this activity right now is an anamoly that will never occur again outside of these few weeks, it is cost prohibitive to invest in more resources.

To safari, then redirected to the AppStore. This happens while scrolling through the posts. It also happens when I am not touching the screen.

I'm on an iPhone 5s.

Anyone else?

It is reminiscent of visiting a sketchy tv streaming site like couchtuner. I am trying to Harbaugh and it automatically redirects to whatever the ad is at the bottom. iPhone 5. Not sure why this happens. I would gladly pay for this app if the ads were dropped. Deck Schembechler Hall with Harbaughs of Harbaugh.
