OT - Eric Byrnes, ESPN Announcer
Is anyone else watching the Miami vs. Florida baseball game on ESPN right now? Former Major Leaguer Eric Byrnes is the third announcer in the booth and has me absolutely rolling with laughter each inning. It's like Jeff Spicoli announcing baseball.
I remember him "announcing" from the bay on a jet ski (with his dog) at the All Star Game in San Fran a few years back. He was entertaining then too.
Byrnes is the man. As an A's fan I absolutely loved his hustle and his work ethic. He was all elbows and knees when he ran, but seemed to have the outlook on life of a golden retriever. Of the current and former MLB players I would love to sit and have a beer with, he definitely makes my top five.
And he just mentioned how he's a great judge of character and he really likes Tiger Woods, extramarital affairs be damned. That would be one hell of a great beer!
From SEBaseball:
If they give out a Razzie for announcers, Byrnes will retire the trophy
Between his "Oppo Taco" calls for opposite field homers, the Tiger comments, explaining that he only found "mankinis" when shopping for board shorts in South Beach, and it taking four innings for him to realize there is no dirt in the base lines, I am officially a fan of Eric Byrnes announcing anything. Reminds me a lot of Jason Bateman's character in Dodgeball.
Great call. He is J. Bateman from The Ocho.
Effin A, Cotton! Pepper needs new shorts...
Was checking out some of that online...
Eric Byrnes is damn funny.
and now I think he's the FUCKING MAN.
Flying right hook? Ridiculous.
the USA soccer team and he can't even name the teams in the US's group. I love Byrnes he's entertaining as an announcer and as a player.
Last week he did the A&M/Miami games. There were a lot of rain delays. At one point he was describing just how amazing his fellow announcers and it was making them really, really uncomfortable. Very man-crushish.
Also, they were talking about St. Johns:
Byrnes - "Is it bad that I didn't even know St. Johns has a baseball team?"
Color Guy - "Yes."
Followed by 5 seconds of awkward silence.
