OT: End of OT is nigh. Get the OT out of your system here

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Saturday and/or Sunday around here means its the start of a Game Week. With previews, actual football games, etc. starting up the board is going to have to get a lot less OT. That said, binge and purge on some OT in this thread. Get it out of your system!

Anyone else hit the Woodward Dream Cruise? I saw a Porsche 550 Spyder in person that I'd trade for a whole bunch of money I dont yet have...

Anyone surprise meet their Korean Inlaws? Have issues with their dogs' anal glands?

We're running out of time, if you've got a question for the board ask it now.

EDIT: here are links to the 2 FAQ pages on the blog as well as Brian's official topic policy

http://mgoblog.com/content/mgofaq

What's the offtopic policy?
In the offseason, offtopic posts are tolerated. During football season they are discouraged and may be subject to removal depending on how alert the moderators are.
What counts as on- and off- topic?
ONTOPIC
• Anything Michigan sports related
• Anything related to other Big Ten teams or upcoming opponents
• Stuff about the blog itself
• University of Michigan topics that don't relate to sports
GRAY AREA
• College sports in general
• Ann Arbor
UNWELCOME, KTHX
• Politics
• Drew Sharp, Ace Williams, Mike Valenti. Saying stupid and/or false things about Michigan in order to get Michigan fans upset is a tried and true way to phish for clicks. Let's not feed the trolls.
OFFTOPIC
• Pro sports of any variety
• Everything else We will let pro sports topics slide even during football season but "everything else" posts are likely to get the axe.

All of my interactions with my Korean in-laws are extremely boring and planned well in advance. I also have light brown hair. Sorry to disappoint all of you.

I have found the science blog From Quarks to Quasars to be a fascinating read.

Here is one particularly interesting story:

"Big Ear would scan whatever section of sky it happened to be pointed it. Because of this, Big Ear could only observe a section of sky for 72 seconds. Assuming there was a constant signal being transmitted by an alien race, for you first 36 seconds we’d expect to see the signal increase in strength, and for the next 36 seconds we’d expect to see it decrease. The graph that is created by the Wow! signal is pretty much exactly what we would expect to see from extaterestrial communication."

Equally fascinating stuff on a daily basis over there.

Which sadly has not received as much press as day 2 of BM's shoulder. We are down in pigeon forge, tenn. Super kitschy! So it goes without saying that the kids love it. Can't wait for the first game, even if it is old App state. The talk of korean in laws made me think of tailgate menu....hubby will be whipping up some korean BBQ to grill at game. Should I make sangria???

was very underrated.  It could be a very confused show at times(the middle of this season a perfect example) but when it was right it was a very effective crime drama, much better than par for the genre.  Peter Sarsgard's work in season 3 was Emmy worthy and the show itself was robbed by not garnering one award nomination during its entire run.  Wish more people had watched it and it could be on for a few more years and would not have had to rush things as much as they did.

Need to catch up on season 4 of Boardwalk so that I can watch the end of it on schedule.

is the best season of the show without a doubt, and the episode "Six minutes" was among the best epsides of television of any show that entire year.  Stick with it in Season 3, it gets very good.

And Turd, I agree with you to an extent, but I don't think failing to conclude the Larson story in season 1 was the biggest problem if they had enough amo to make a compelling season 2 continuing storyline out of it.  It became clear in season 2 that they did not have enough material with the same story and you could even tell the creators were discouraged.  I would advise watching season 3 though even it you just want to skip season 2.

A well known billionaire playboy from Gotham is going to be in Seattle for a few months on business. It's pure coincidence that a giant bat starts cracking skulls and dropping crime rates at the same time.

I'll try to finalize it with JGB, but we're pretty much targeting 8/24 at midnight as the official end as that begins Game Week. To that end, there might be some cleanup that happens a little before then, and we have started to pick off a thread here and there in lieu of this time of the year. In the meantime, however, as the OP states, feel free to get the OT out - hopefully, we have a few good ones before we narrow our focus.

woudn't it?  Or would like "Boise State v. Air Force Open Thread" or "Friday Night Games Open Thread" be preferable?

If that were the entire scope of one thread, the game predictions alone would make it a thread that would stand. In reality, the odd weekend drinking thread typically stays, of course - there is precedent that Friday and Saturday Drinking threads stay up more often than not, of course. Actually, those threads generate game-related discussions anyway.

Another minor point for the board - the Snowflake Rules will be enforced this year too, with possible narrow exceptions being made should the volume of posts become unmanageable or there is a specific point which is justified in having a separated thread. Those exceptions will be ruled on by the mods as usual. I know these rules are not universally popular, but it does keep the board manageable postgame.

Yeah, a Friday night open thread will work fine. Other than predictions there's also always a game on somewhere, same goes with MACtion earlier in the week.

The past three seasons it's gone no-OT after Saturday, to give a full game week before the first kickoff. Unless one of the other mods has an objection it'll be midnight on 8/24 like LSA said.

GRRM needs to finish the Winds of Winter already. His response to some people who said he may not be able to finish the books was pretty funny though.

Winter is coming. Sadly.

starting to think he is just going to hand that thing off to Beinoff and Weiss and say take it from here.  It is almost inevitable at this point that the show is going to catch up to the books.  What do you do at that point?  Take a year off and come back when it is ready?

I think there is enough content within the 5 books to keep the seasons going without "catching up" to the books completely. They have I believe 7 seasons signed with HBO and GRRM has expressed interest in a large production movie conclusion as well as a potential 8th book. A lot to take in but the man loves his work.

I will be able to take in games regularly now without a flight involved so I'm happy.  On that note does anyone else like to tailgate and then head home to watch the games?  I have done this the past couple of game days I have went to and like the balance of the energy/comraderie from tailgating with the view/convenience of the TV/home.
