OT: Elijah Hood to Notre Dame

Submitted by Balrog_of_Morgoth on

The 4/5* running back out of North Carolina has (unfortunately) committed to The Irish. We were the favorite for roughly a day (right after he visited back in February) and he was considered by many (e.g. 7 out of 8 on 247's crystal ball) to be a North Carolina lean.

Officially committing to The University of Notre Dame! #GoIrish #ND #BlueAndGold

Notre Dame, in my opinion, shouldn't be concerned about playing teams that give it better chances to win. With a playoff coming and strength of schedule being that much more important, that seems asinine. I'd rather play the tougher opponent, take the chance of beating them, and then my resume for a national title looks all the more impressive. I'd also rather play the opponent that puts up more money and drives TV ratings nationally. Purdue and MSU don't do that.

I think just the opposite. I think it's ridiculous to think that any undefeated brand name team will be left out of the playoff no matter now easy the schedule. This 'strength of schedule' stuff is just an entire load of crap. All that matters is wins, so any team SHOULD schedule teams for wins. Humans will always have the final say, and I'll believe humans will put an undefeated ND team behind a one loss Oregon team when I see it.

Ah well.  As others have noted, he'll only be on the schedule once if that, and at this point UM's backfield looks pretty solid.  Obviously you want more talent, but it's not nearly as devastating a blow as you'd expect.

No need to buckle up. The article just brings us up to date on Bushell-Beatty and Peppers. Bushell-Beatty will likely decide in the next two months--Michigan is the leader, but he is also considering Wisconsin and Florida. Peppers, as we already deduced a few days ago, is going to take a visit to Stanford this summer before he makes a decision.
