OT - Eid Mubarak

Submitted by 615Wolverine on
Eid Mubarak the Muslim holiday is observed and celebrated today. From all Michigan fans around the world Eid Mubarak to all our MGOMuslims and everyone else that observes this holiday. Christmas to Christianity is the holiest holiday and this is the equivalence holiday for Muslims. May you have a happy and safe holiday. #GoBlue

Replying as non sarcastically as possible: Other posters above have pointed out more than one example of Christian holidays being celebrated here, so if you take "May you have a happy and safe holiday" as an injustice to christianity, it's in spite of the facts.

And if you read those threads they were heavily mommed with a ton of posts deleted. I'm not saying that the moms would allow this post over those, I'm saying the users that need to ram their objections to religion (read: christianity) down everyone's throats will come bitch and wail in those threads but will be nowhere to be found here.

So you're not objecting to this post, you're objecting to a lack of complaints against this post. Have you see the very first comment? Is it not the one you are replying to? OK so all the religions have a happy holidays post and each happy holidays post had a no religion complaint and now no one is aggrieved right?

I'm replying to darkerblue's no religion post and the replies with links to other religion posts. Why are your panties in a wad? Nothing I posted was inaccurate or pro any religion or "side". Just an observation of the way the board goes.

If "This isn't a "Christian" holiday so it's ok to put here and say things about." Was actually addressing examples of Christian holiday posts which were also ok, I'm not sure I understand what observation you were making.

To clarify, the problems start when someone decides to be dickish, proselytizing, smug, intolerant (some have been all of those in the same sentence) or any one of a number of things which would stifle open discussion, and so far that hasn't happened here. With these sorts of threads, in about 9 out of 10 cases, it isn't the message or the OP, it is the people responding and their own attitudes that cause the problems and lead to a lot of these threads eventually ending poorly.

Yeah, people are going to say "no religion", but in my own interpretation - and Brian or Seth can correct me at any time - is that mere greetings such as what the OP posted are typically fine and inoffensive save to the few who can't handle even that - otherwise, virtually all of the Christmas, Easter, Passover and other threads would be taken down as well, rather than the select few which were invaded by problematic posters. Overt preaching would likely be an auto-ban, but that's definitely not what is going on here.

I'm with you Darker Blue.

"Military cemeteries around the world are packed with brainwashed dead soldiers who were convinced God was on their side. America prays for God to destroy our enemies. Our enemies pray for God to destroy us. Somebody's gonna be disappointed! Somebody's wasting their time! Could it be.. everyone?"

IIRC, "Eid Mubarak" is not a holiday but a greeting Muslims give one another at Eid al-Fitr (the breaking of the fast of Ramadan).

So Eid Mubarak to all the MGoMuslims on the board!  And those same MGoMuslims should correct me here if I'm wrong (not Islamic, and don't play a Muslim on TV!).

Easter is the critical, or holiest holiday, for Christians, but your sentiment stands, none the less.

EDIT:  This morning, while I was dropping my son off at school, I noticed several high school boys in full traditional Muslim dress (grey gowns). I suspect it has something to do with the holiday.

I really fail to see why so many people seem to want to force this OP into the dreaded "religion" category, and can't instead just look the other way about posts like this if they think it's offensive.  Just like the recent post about the Juno probe, I find the education process here on MGoBlog very enjoyable - even though I'm not Muslim and don't celebrate the holiday.  Tolerance, man, tolerance.

I read nothing religious into this at all. This is not a governmnt site where we have to be anal as to what we post in fear of offending someone. It's not difficult to read this blog one time and not realize the education level here is far greater than that found on most like sites.

It's only natural it would be made up of curious minds and those always great to learn a little about other cultures. I find the many things about the Latino culture simply fascinating and in some cases, amazing, in that they've been able to keep them intact for 500 years. I learn new thing new every year and sometime in  November I'll be making my 6th straight trip south of the border.

I found this post worthy just from the tolerance aspect.

I'll be honest, when I saw the title, I was thinking Big Eid might be an offensive line prospect. YMRMFSPA Big Ed Muransky.

to all of the MGoMuslims out there!

Enjoy being able to eat and drink fluids during daylight once again!

And congrats to all who embarked on a difficult journey to understand the plight of those less fortunate.

given the size of MGoBlog community and the demographics of both the UM system and the state. So starting today, should be noticeably fewer hungry folks snapping at bad posts in the late afternoons. Not that we ever have those here. But if we did, just sayin'.

Eid Mubarak to you as well. This post brought a smile to my face. It's good know there are people out there that are aware of other people's beliefs and respect it.
