A popular opinion by graduate students from EMU is that you should not live in the apartment complexes north of the river.  This just confirms it.  Prayers to his family.

Born and raised probably a mile from those apartments.  Never has been a good area.  The apartments on the other side of Leforge (used to be called Leforge Villa, not sure what they are now) were notorious for crime/drugs/gangs.

Thoughts are with Reed's family!

That is terrible news, and thoughts and condolences to Reed's family, teammates and friends as well as the EMU community. SBNation has the text from EMU's release (HERE) and supposedly more details will come this afternoon.

Even worse knowing that I go here. It's a somber mood around campus right now and tomorrow's game vs Ohio will be very emotional. So tragic. Go Eagles. Tru EMU.

I had done a quick google to make sure I was remembering it right (I was, I'd seen him play in HS at Simeon) and found myself following a link to his twitter.

His first tweet, pretty much every day, was something like:

Woke up ta see another 24 even tho I prolly don't deserve it.. U can't ask fa nun mo than that

And now he won't. Just a heartwrenching read and I don't know what to say. Rest in peace, Denarius.

You say your sure it was "another senseless crime", but almost all crimes have "sense" to them. In fact, if it was "completley sensless" a murder conviction would be near imposible.

It's senseless to people with sense.  For those who don't and feel like they have to commit heinous crimes like this, it makes sense to them.  Terrible.  Puts things back in perspective.

This kind of hit me in a bad way because I photograph EMU sports for Eagle Totem (a blog actually dedicated to EMU) and live pretty close to the area.  It is pretty tragic.
