OT: East Lansing couches get a reprieve; sweatshirts not so lucky

Submitted by Eye of the Tiger on

From the Detroit News:

Authorities in East Lansing sought to control a crowd that set sweatshirts on fire following Michigan State University's basketball win Sunday.

If it was any other school, I would feel sorry for Sparty for making it there in a year when everyone is playing for second place to UK.  Obviously, that is not happening.

First osu wins the national title in football and now msu makes the final four, all while we miss the postseason in both sports. Normally that would put me into a sports-depression, but since we landed Harbaugh, I don't even care because I know it's only a matter of time before we are dominating both of them again. So they can have a little fun until order is restored this fall.

Harbaugh will bring about wins, championships and change, but I doubt he'll dominate Urbz. He's playing catch up to perhaps the top program in the country. I think it'll be more like the 10 year war (however long it lasts). Unfortunately, Sparty won't roll over as long as Dantonio is there either. Thank god we have Harbaugh, but I doubt it'll look like the 90s. This is something new, and should be awesome.

I think Harbaugh is going to beat Meyer into little bitchcakes until his "health issues" return.  That's how the rivalry seems to work.  Bo and Woody were the exception, not the rule.

Cooper was a great coach @ OSU, got his ass handed to him by Michigan almost every year.

Lloyd was a great coach @ Michigan, got his ass handed to him by Tressel almost every year.

It's time for the tide to turn.  Now I'm not saying we're going to beat OSU every year, but I think once the Harbaugh train is rolling, we'll be winning more often than not.  Say 70% of the time.

You could be right, but I think not. Urbz is a way better coach than Cooper and we all hope/know Harbaugh is better than Lloyd (track record would indicate it).

Bo was 5-4-1 vs. Woody and 4-5 vs. Earle Bruce. I think those 19 years are a good indication of what these two programs are like as rivals. Cooper was overrated and Tressel cheated vs. Lloyd, and then beat up on maize and blue baby seals.

JH and Urbz are like Bo and Woody except they're the same age. I hope JH forces Urbz into retirement (or flight to the NFL) but I'm thinking this will be a battle, and right now, Urbz is on higher ground (terrain not ethical).

which of us is right (and we both hope it's me).

Meyer is one of the best CFB coaches out there, but I don't think he'll be able to sustain his recent level of success much longer.  Don't forget, he took over at OSU with Michigan riding the CC and being mediocre (at best) for several years.  PSU was in Bolivia.  The rest of the Big 10 was pretty meh.

My main reason for thinking JH as a good shot at dominating the rivalry is the way that OSU played The Game against Hoke.  While he only went 1-3 against OSU, that record could have easily been 3-1.  Meyer will really have to step up his game to keep up with Harbaugh.

I think the B1G East is gonna be a monster to rival the recent SEC west so I agree it will be tougher for Urbz (and just as tough for JH, Dantonio and Franklin). Whomever comes out on top will then have to deal with B1G West champ, but that will mirror the SEC too. So, Urbz may not be able to maintain his current level, but will get his share too...or so it makes sense he would.

Explain this to me logically how you think because the last three years have been close games that now with JH at Michigan, that equals some push over the edge to win?

Hoke games again Ohio State

2011- Michigan makes a critical stop on third down, OSU kicks a FG, Michigan plays solid defense to end the game, Braxton Miller over throws Posey (I still have that image in my mind) Michigan snaps the streak and rushes the field vs. a 6-6 Ohio State team. A .500 team.....

2012- A decent Michigan team gives OSU everything it can handle, OSU doesn't execute for most of the game but makes enough plays to win, Michigan doesn't cross the 50 yard line in second half, OSU has poor tackling, Michigan has no run game nor can stop Carlos Hyde

2013- Michigan fans melts down over Al "Uncle Fester" Borges as the offense is the worst ever, Michigan plays out of their mind, Ohio State has the worst secondary in school history as Devin has a career day passing for 600 yard (if I remember correctly), Borges throws the kitchen sink at OSU, Hyde has a fumble that could have put the game out of reach early, Michigan goes for two because they can't stop OSU run game, Michigan didn't execute the 2 point play, interception by Powell, OSU escapes...

2014- Hoke last game and throws the kitchen sink at OSU, Coach Funk last game (the offensive line development was terrible), Michigan has good tempo and paste on offense and survives an early punch by OSU, running of Joe Karriage (who was the RB that got injured) keeps Michigan in the game, he gets injured after tying the game, OSU explodes for points and wins 42-28, Hoke gone....

Hello: Jimmy!

In so many of these games Michigan didn't executed and could have won. However, at the same time, OSU didn't execute (did enough to win) but had they been on point Michigan could have lost by more than scores of just 26-21, 42-41, or 42-28..... I guess it's a bad thing to have close games and win, unless 50-14 scores while going for three points, with the game in hand, is your thing. Did you want OSU to annihilate you to feel better about your team? That would be like OSU fans saying if we had Meyer in 2011 we could have beat Michigan because the game was "so close"....Urban Fricking Meyer!!!!

Meyer has a great game plan set up and I'm sure JH will too. It may take him some time to recruit and get his players, it may not, but to think because the previous coach couldn't get it done and Michigan wasn't beat by a worst margin doesn't make sense....

But Harbuagh......

picked Michigan State to play Kentucky in the Championship Game? When I do my brackets I do them to make money not root against teams I hate. I had Kentucky over Arizona and Michigan State over Duke. I am leading my bra it because I went out on a limb with State and they are playing strong into March. I like money more than I hate State.

I lived in CV for a year, during the Rose Bowl riot last year. MSU undergrad, Michigan grad student. Have to remember that they are just college kids, but at the same time, they really do a disservice to the school's reputation.

MSU already gets a reputation as a party school, they don't need this. I wish things were different there, but they aren't. I wish the school would crack down on the rioters harder. That's one of the big reasons I am a Michigan fan- we are supposed to stand for something more.

I'm done with basketball this year.  Have been for a while.  I kinda hope Wisconsin wins it all just because they aren't the others.  Basically, whatever.

In the NBA, I seriously don't think the Knicks could have gotten to the final four.  I see what are supposed to pass for highlights and have no clue who these guys are.  Don't really care either.  Either I just care less about basketball every year, or basketball gets worse every year.  Either way (or both...)

Bring on football!

In a couple of days Duke will beat state again and lose to Kentucky. A few years after that Kentucky's title will be taken. None of this will matter.

Slow times for furniture that has reached the end of its useful life, but one couch fire was reported a few days ago after MSU beat Oklahoma by WLNS - LINK

Indeed, couches might be on edge, but the folks at the Art Van Clearance Center in Grand Ledge probably see "commission" when things like this happen and there is a shortage of freely available sofas.

Don't live Michigan, rather Indy and I'll take Sparty over UK any day. Those bastards invaded my town last year and it was brutal.

Thankfully as they all head north on Saturday, so will I (coming to AA for the spring game).

Everyone Murders

I'm surprised nobody's noted this yet, but connect the dots and the explanation is clear.  James Hackett leaves Steelcase for Michigan's AD position.  Having a love of furniture and great connections in the furniture world, Hackett pulls the necessary levers and cuts off E. Lansing's furniture supply.

Now the Spartans live in times of couch austerity.  Conservation is the order of the day.

Actually, SB Nation came out with a story about couches being burned in East Lansing.

For some reason I haven't been able to paste links here for a long time. No such problem at other sites.
