OT - East Coast Snow Venting Thread

Submitted by Marley Nowell on

Live in NJ and just got finished shoveling 12"+ snow for at least the 6th time this winter and this stuff was by far the heaviest.  Its also suppose to snow again tonight.  I can honestly say this is the worst winter I've ever seen in Jersey and worse than anything I remember in Ann Arbor except maybe Winter 2005.

I encourage others to commiserate as the old saying goes "misery enjoys company."

This winter has been the WORST.  Sick of all the snow and the cold temperatures.  This is my third winter in Philly and I am at my breaking point this year.

Silver Lining: get to work from home quite a bit this year, but am actually getting tired of that as well.

I certainly do not miss the snow after moving last year to California. In fact today has been the nicest day this month with sun and 70 degrees. An old friend was visiting from NC and planned to fly out today. A miracle his flight was not cancelled from the sounds of it.

if you're an M-grad you gotta be knowledgeable enough to know that it's not "global warming" but climate change, and all of the chaos that comes with it. Meanwhile--yeah--average temps are rising. My Southern Baptist mother-in-law cannot (or will not) absorb this, but the rest of us shouldn't still be recycling the 'global warming my ass' meme.

2 hours to shovel the driveway. Definitely buying a snowboard when they go on sale at the end of winter. Yay for fricking hail over the last two hours. Will be great under the 4" forecast to hit us.

Channel 4 said 60 by next Thursday.  Heard that Richmond got thunder snow.  Lewis Black has a classic rant on that when he experienced one time in Boston.

A good portion of the UP's economy is based off of snowmobiling, skiing/snowboarding, ice fishing and the like. Bring on that snow!

Meh, this isn't as bad as I thought.  Given, the city seems a bit less snowy than the suburbs, but living out in the Bronx I figured I'd get be getting crappy services.  So far, nice clean-ish walkways and the trains were running reasonably well.

While I somewhat disagree that this snow was the heaviest of the season, I must acknowledge that I gave up shoveling my driveway and city sidewalk after 2.5 hours. Our last snowfall, a week ago with the freezing rain, was by far, the heaviest.

In total, we received 13" today, so I guess this explains my throwing in the towel. With the freezing rain this evening, the rest of my driveway will suck to clear. That, and the fact that I no longer have any place to put the snow. It's stacked 5' high along my driveway.

First time I've had a driveway to shovel. Totally not sick of it yet. I have a driveway!! And I get to shovel it! My wife wanted to buy me a snow blower for Christmas, I made her buy me a shovel instead. She thinks I'm crazy. I may be, but I say bring it Jack Frost, I'm ready!

Text yesterday morning from fellow UofM alum:

"65 and sunny here in Sochi!"

smh

NY/NJ and it looks like no one even bothered to shovel or plow anything this time around.
