OT: East Coast Deathstorm 2016

Submitted by gopoohgo on

NWS has issued it's first ever blizzard watch for the DC/Md/Va area.

12" is now the minimum; NoVa, Montgomery County may hit 2-3'.

Repent!

PS Yes,  Northern New York and the UP get this all the time.  We have 10x the population with much less the snow removal resources in this area.

I'm in NoVA and I'm pumped.  As long as I still have electricity, I hope we get 3 feet of snow... that would be good for at least the whole next week off work.

Nothing I love more than shoveling snow each winter whenever we get a storm, knowing that there will be jack shit on anyone's schedule for days on end.

I'm originally from Michigan... at first I thought it was insane and ridiculous down here when it snows.  Now I just think it is awesome.

Beer and shovel at the ready.

I hate trying to drive around NoVA during any winter event, but there's something nice about having the whole region shut down for a few days as the snow moves in. I don't remember a lot about the storms in Michigan growing up, but here in VA it seems like we get our snow all at once rather than spread out over the season.

@ryanmaue (Michigan grad) is the guy to follow for updates and model work. He's been looking at this for a couple of days. 2 feet of snow is a lot pretty much anywhere. There's still a chance of rain mixing in, which... Could be even worse.

I moved to the DC area just after the Snowmageddon winter. I kinda like snow, just not all the time. Really looking forward to two weeks off work. [Written from my DC Snow Threat Bunker, please excuse any horrified scream emoticons]

Being from the metro-Detroit area, with stints in the UP, and now living in Stafford, VA, personally I can't wait for the snow. My co-workers, knowing I'm from Michigan, keep asking, "bet you're looking forward to this, aren't you?!" To which I reply, "No matter how much, it won't be enough!" Go Blue!!!

is not forecast for Michigan right now but I really would not mind it if it was.  My take on winter is this - I never get irritated or really even discuss snow unti March 1, at which time I get very pissed every time it snows thereafter.  I cannot golf from November through February and I accept that, but my clubs come up from the basement on March 1 and I expect to be playing by the 15th and grilling burgers afterword.  If Winter starts taking away my March and April I am not a happy camper.

I'm in mid Michigan and we have barely had any this season! Not one snow day here yet. Send it back, East coasters! (But no ice, thanks). And, ijohnb, just go South for the golf. I always send my hubby golfing about two weekends per winter so he's ready for Spring.
