OT: Duke, baby. 2010 National Champs.

Submitted by maizenbluedevil on
WOOOOO!!!! Alright, since Duke gets a lot of hate round here, I'm starting this thread for all Devils fans to celebrate!!! Everyone may feel free to offer me congratulatory booze, strippers, MGoPoints, etc. All Devils fans feel free to represent in our one shinging moment!!!!! (And P.S. - That last shot was WAY too close!!! It still makes me nervous after seeing it 10 times on replay and knowing the outcome. When that happened live, I thought we were hosed. Kudos to Butler for putting up a hell of an effort.) GO DEVILS!!! :-D

No, it's not unreasonable. It's also not unreasonable for non-Duke fans to hate Duke fans for doing so. (I am neither for or against Duke, so I don't really care one way or the other.)

The best thing for college basketball would be for a Mid-Major or non big boy type school to win the National Championship. This would promote the team game more and possibly get more of the most talented guys to stick around for at least one more year. This would also help the NBA out by not having to develope players as much. If most stayed three or four years the sport as a whole would benifit. Hopefully Butler going this far has started a trend.

While I agree that it would have been cool for a mid-major to have won it all, the notion that it would have caused a big ripple effect and persuaded superstar players to stay in school is a stretch. If anything, a more team-oriented college game might make the John Walls of the world want out even more.

just got hot at the right time. /sarcasm Seriously, I admit my jealous feelings toward the Blue Devils, but Coach K seems like a great coach who has earned everything he's won. Congrats to Duke.

Woo ACC! I don't hate Duke (there's some family presence there) and I'd have been happy regardless of the outcome. You know why? Cause it was Duke-Butler and not MSU-WVU. Although honestly I was hoping for that last second shot to go in. Just because it would have been a really amazing historic moment.

At first initial glance I have to respect Duke's basketball program. Smart kids, that stay four years and get a great education. Coach K is without a doubt the most accomplished coach of my life time.(not Izzo) However when I take a closer look I can't help but hate probably the most annoying bunch of dorks ever assembled to root for their team. The Cameron crazies fall nothing short of obnoxious and remind me of Buckeye fans but with a good education. Coach K, he says and does all the right things so my only problem with him is that he reminds me of Swifty from Basketball Diaries. So fuck Duke

to see duke when last night, and i'll admit that i was rooting for them... duke helped me get through the bad years of michigan basketball... remember there was a time when michigan basketball wasn't on TV all that much and especially if you lived in canada, but duke was... so it was easy to make duke my secondary team for college basketball...

Because it seemed like no one else was. There is way too much hate out there for them and they aren't nearly as over exposed as they used to be. I'm also extremely happy it was a great game and not a blow out either way. That being said, unless you went to Duke, I don't know how you can be so happy as to post this here. At least you put OT though

You like Duke, I am sure you also like the Lakers, the Cowboys, and the Yankees. I hoped Butler had of won just to take that smug look off of coach K's face.

Congrats to Duke. Interesting to see if Singler returns. Probably will be more guard oriented next year when they add my fellow Jersey boy Kyrie Irving(No.2 point guard in the country) and Seth Curry(Stephen's liitle bro who will be a Soph SG after tranferring from Liberty.)

BTW: Hey Gerald Henderson, you average 7 minutes and 2.3 points a game in Charlotte. The NBA wasn't going anywhere. Was it worth it? As they say at Michigan:" Those who stay will be champions."

"The Charlotte Bobcats have signed shooting guard Gerald Henderson to a rookie-scale contract that guarantees him at least $3.38 million over the next two seasons." Now think about what happened to DeSean Butler's knee. I think the answer is a resounding "YES".

Who's to say that Duke would have won the national championship with Henderson in the lineup? Not that he's a bad player, but sometimes things have to happen just right for a team to win the NC. If he's in the lineup, maybe they have chemistry issues or maybe he costs them a game in the tournament because of a turnover or a bad foul or something. Also, he's rich.

How often do you see injuries like his happen to guys. Then take that group and cut it down to guys who will actually get drafted. For those few guys we're talking about just take out an insurance policy like so many have done before.

Odds or not, I'm not taking even a 0.001% chance I blow out my knee w/ millions of dollars on the table. That said, if there's a chance I may not get drafted and I'd have to spend years in the D-Leauge...whole different story.
