If that timeline is indeed the case it's likely a material that was so flammable the sprinkler system couldn't contain it.  As some people said below, it may be an exterior element.

From the videos posted, the fire walls seperating the building into sections appear to be doing their job.  The fire seems to be contained to the center area and bottom 2/3 of the building.  The flames aren't spreading throughout the entire structure, hopefully giving anyone affected a means to escape.

Its a flaming burning inferno of hell. Obviously if people are in there they are getting hurt.  Look at that thing.  When you look at a horrific car crash or catastrophic event etc. it seems silly to me to say "Gee i hope their okay".  They're not okay!  That building is on fucking fire! Its so obvious that everyone in the entire world minus the sociopaths hope people are okay during (insert bad thing) so why say it on a message board? Let's talk about important stuff like how long Gary might stay during his visit and what that might mean.

I've read before that most skyscrapers in Dubai and maybe the whole UAE use this certain exterior cladding that is very flammable. Not sure why it's allowed. This has happened a couple times before and I don't believe any lives were lost so hoping for the same here.

Yeah, forgot the /s. Just making light of the fact that it is easy to confuse the two.

I've never seen Airport but I've seen Airplane numerous times. I wonder if watching Airport makes Airplane that much funnier? It stands up so well on its own anyway. (I also think I remember The Towering Inferno being on TV when I was young.)

Geez, it's the real life Towering Inferno. I hate news like this on NYE...just too much bad stuff going on around the world. I really hope/pray 2016 will be better.

"Anyone with a right mindset." I guess I need to be sent down to the countryside for reeducation, or exterminated, herr komissar, since I don't know what happened. Because hotels never really go up in flames unless, you know, whatever NFG is thinking of happens.
