OT: Drunk UConn Student Apologizes

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

We had a lot of fun last week with the drunk UConn punk who threw a fit after being denied some mac and cheese at the student union. The student, Luke Gatti, has issued a video apologizing for his behavior:

Decide for yourself whether you believe a word of it.

I have a clean record, and I never did anything like the "give me the mac n' cheese" stupidity we saw a few days ago.  But yes, college kids sometimes make two mistakes.  Some even make three!

This video doesn't convince me that the kid's not really a punk.  The video could well have been scripted by the family lawyer or some other advisor to address the shitstorm that was the original video.  But it may be a sincere apology, and I hope he truly is addressing his underlying problems (which I'm guessing are not limited to "his big mouth").

Anyway, I saw your response and my immediate thought was "thank God there's not video of some of the stupidity I engaged in when I was a teenager".  I wasn't being abusive to people, but I'm sure I did some things that I'm glad are not preserved in the eternal memory of the web.

The student went into a UConn cafeteria obviously wasted, and the manager asked him to leave due to his intoxication.  The student refused to leave until he got his "bacon jalapeno mac n' cheese" and got increasingly belligerent.  The staff at the cafeteria showed remarkable restraint - the kid spat at the manager, and was begging for a tune-up.  But the staff was pretty damned gentle with him.

Site search the board for "UConn" "Drunk" and you'll get a link to the video.  The comments are pretty good, too, with one of our MGoBoard members observing that it was really the cafeteria's fault for having that shizz on the menu.  Indeed - you don't put out birdseed and get mad at the birds for coming to the feeder.

We need to focus on the upcoming game and yet here we are talking about fucking jalapeño bacon jalapeño mac n' cheese. What's wrong with you people? What would Raki have to say about this?

You were right though. This message board has been reading its press clippings too much. We've assumed we can just log on Saturday and talk about beating MSU no problem. But I'll tell you what, if we don't get our shit together and focus our posts on the big game this weekend, Saturday will be a mess. We will have posters talking about golf, hot chicks in drag, others asking where to watch the game in Bumblefuck, Tennessee, and we'll blog our way to an L against Sparty. Time to get your shit together, MGoBloggers...

The most believable word there was that his friends and family "support" him. I believe that they likely support him financially, and also enable him. That isn't always a good combination. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Fuck this kid. He's a scumbag...although that video was entertaining as hell. I wish I could shake the hand of the cafeteria manager, though. "Hope the kid gets help" blah blah blah. He's had chances by the sound of it to better himself after past mistakes and he choses not to. Fuck him and his lack of taking responsibility for his actions. NOW SOMEBODY GET ME SOME FUCKING JALAPENO BACON MAC N CHEEEEEEEESE.

I did a lot of dumb shit in my day. I'm not going to judge him. I'm glad there wasn't an audience full of camera phones everywhere I went during college and high-school. Kid was obviously blackout drunk. Learn from it and move on. Apology video is lame. Nobody is going to feel sorry for you, but you didn't do anything that won't be forgotten in 3 months. It makes you look like more of a douche by making this video and saying "donate to the food banks". Just quit drinking and go to bed. Sky isn't falling.

All that said... If you ever spit on someone again, I hope you get your ass kicked. No excuse for that. That's just shitty

At first it was ok, then seemed very contrived when he pretended he forgot to mention the mac n cheese donation crap before signing off. Also had a sprinkling of an academy award speech when he mentioned those that have supported him over the years, why is that relevant?

I guess this is his version of trying to sit on Oprah's couch begging for forgiveness. I don't give a shit either way, wolud prefer not to see him ever again. But unfortunately I have a feeling he won't really address any issues and we'll see him again very soon.

Hard for me to feel bad for him. He's a repeat offender and his parents give me the impression that they're enablers, as they haven't done much of anything to get him help.

Hope for his sake that he cleans up his act. The next time, he could say the wrong thing to the wrong person, and end up being found in a back alley after being beaten within an inch of his life.

Exactly. We haven't heard anything from his parents yet some people want to jump to conclusions about them. They've stayed quiet, rather than jumping to his public defense.

As many of us know from first hand experience, it's tough to get 19-year-old men to stay away from booze, and it looks like this young man just can't handle it.
