OT: Drew Henson in Reverse: Tebow Giving Up Football for Baseball
Actually, football gave up Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow gave up football. Still, the parallels to Drew Henson are interesting.

I still hate George Steinbrenner.
Michael Jordan in forward.
Does Tebow have a gambling problem?
He has been publicly betting on god for years.
That being the case then, he must strive to be the first misplaced fullback to steal home multiple times in a season since, yeah, Rod Carew. Anytime you can make Michael Jordan look like one of the best contact hitters in the last 50 years of baseball, you know you're.....well, let's talk about that future you think you have....
In all seriousness though, I guess we'll see where it goes - when he was in high school I think the Angels and Dodgers and maybe a few other teams were at least interested.
Tebow was suspended for lack of talent.

MJ's father was killed execution style. It's not a tinfoil hat stretch to infer from the data that he was actually executed. Jordan's gambling investigation by the NBA magically "went away" when he "retired" for two years.
It's not "tinfoil hat" to conclulde that Jordan got in over his head with the wrong people and his dad paid the price. Nor is it "tinfoil hat" to acknowledge the possibilitiy that David Stern, MJ and maybe even Phil Knight brokered a deal behind closed doors.
That's they way business is done. No illuminati, no wide-eyed conspiracy theory, no aleins. Just "good business."
Tim Tebow has been working with former NY Yankee, and 9x All-Star Gary Sheffield, who believes Tebow can possibly make it:
I spent time w @TimTebow in the cages recently, he's a NATURAL. I absolutley believe in his ability to play in the bigs. Tim has IT #focused
— Gary Sheffield (@garysheffield) August 9, 2016
have been hitting off of the softballl/slo-pitch machines...
Basically Sheffield said that Tebow's swinging mechanics are great and he just needs in-game expereince to pick up the naunces/adjustments. Sheffield thinks that Tebow's greatest attribute is his "coachability" and drive because Tebow was able to instantly pick-up and incorporate any coaching tips he was given.
It doesn't seem like Gary Sheffield has any reason to vouch for Tebow, financial or otherwise, but who knows..
That's great! If anyone should be coaching Tebow on how to hit it should be the guy that does a bunch of unnecessary movements before he swings. "Alright Timmy, you just need to violently swing your bat back and forth, then kick your leg nice and high, drop your hands low and swing as hard as you can."

I thought he gave up football a long time ago
I think football gave up on him.
Saying Tebow gave up on football is like saying I gave up on Gisele so that Brady can have her...
but I have to say I was a little puzzled that he cannot at least be on a roster as backup QB. The guy started basically an entire season, played in and won a playoff game. Now there is not a place for him on a team but Drew Stanton can be in the league for like 25 years? I don't completely understand that.
Given that Tebow was a mediocre at best QB, the amount of attention that comes with having him on the roster wouldn't be worth the benefits. It was pretty telling that even the Patriots, a team that leaves no stone unturned, also chose not to keep him on the roster.
The guys ego isn't built for a backup role. His ego is going to get him riding the bus.
Since when does Tebow have an "ego?"
Fault him for having poor throwing mechanics all you want, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that Tebow is anything less than a stand-up guy that stands by his moral code.
I've never met Tebow personally, but my friend once asked him for an autograph. My friend said that Tebow stopped what he was doing, thanked my friend for asking for an autograph, conversed for about 5 minutes, hugged him and then ran to catch up with his friends. Overall just a pleasant interaction and felt that Tebow geniunely wanted to take the time to know a fan a little bit better.
Ego = I MUST be a QB. If he would have been willing to consider a position switch to tight end or something else he might still be in the NFL. His unwillingess aka ego, prevented him from considering anything but QB.
I think it comes from his refusal to change to any position but QB...
Everyone has a fucking ego
It's because Denver was forced to change their whole offense to help him be successful. Nobody is willing to do that for a backup QB. You can't deny that he made plays and was a winner though. I thought he'd fit into someones system eventually. Guess not.
I decided a while ago that my dislike of Tebow was a bit unfair and irrational. So I'll not use this chance to tear him up more. Nevertheless, this sounds like a pretty desperate long-shot thing here...
Eh, not a bad deal for some minor league team to pick him up actually. It's easy publicity even if they get nothing else out of it.
I wonder how good we would have been if Drew had stayed for his senior year.
I also wonder what Drew is up to these days...
Barring catastrophe I believe he would have been a first pick.
IIRC he was a trendy preseason pick for Heisman.
That's why the Yankees pulled him. Not because he played at Michigan.
Drew Henson loved football and he cost the Yankees a ton of money by taking a 2 million dollar signing bonus and then picking football. Then they sunk a ton more into him when they traded one of their top prospects, Wily Mo Pena, to get him back from the Reds. The Yankees knew if he played his senior year he would burn them again for the NFL and they had invested too much into him to let him walk.
This will add another hilarious chapter to the inevitable 30 for 30 about Urban Meyer's Florida Gators.
Never understood why Tim flat out refused to play tight end in the NFL. Or does everyone walk away from millions of dollars so they can try to make it in another league out of nowhere
When Denver upset the Steelers in OT, dude thought he was a legit QB and everyone else was stomping all over his dreams. That was a great game but he threw the ball 9 yards and the receiver did all the work.
You're right though. Should have converted positions. Just like Jerame Tuman or Randle El or something.
I think you are looking for Jay Riemersma. He was the backup QB at Michigan and converted to TE after a rotator cuff injury.
Yeah... thanks.
Hard to give up on your dreams. But at 28 - time to grow up and get a job.
Next he'll be trying for the bobsled team a' la Lolo Jones.
Is this Gucci or the Gucci clone?
