OT: Doreen (N. Ill.) to coach NC State

Submitted by markinmsp on

Reported that Dave Doreen is leaving Northern Illinois to take over as head coach at North Carolina State. He continued a winning program in the MAC, had two straight championship seasons, and just spoiled Kent St’s chance at a BCS berth. He has brought Jordan Lynch along very well, interested what he could do with a better program.

Should be a good hire for them, but here is a primarily Great Lakes area coach now headed to ACC. Wonder how much effect it will have on Midwest area talent. His primary scouting area of familiarity is here.

N.C. State got a very good coach. My favorite team after Michigan is NIU. I've been to 5 of their games this year including the MAC championship. Doeren has done a great job there and hopefully will continue to do the same at N.C State. He's a coach with class and well loved by NIU. Everyone is pretty bummed he's gone but is happy he's gotten a great opportunity. Will now be interesting to see where NIU ends up for a bowl game after the losses over the weekend and their win over Kent St

It's hilarious that N Illinois is going to the Orange Bowl, and Doeren won't be there to coach them, considering it is very likely that NC State probably won't be making any BCS bowls.
