OT - Donate Tickets to Refugees
Since there have been a couple recent posts about where to donate tickets, I thought this would be timely and appropriate.
While at UM Law, I volunteered to help people from around the world who fled torture and persecution in their home countries and wound up in Detroit. The organization is called Freedom House, and my experience there was so moving that I've stayed involved several years after graduating and becoming a "lawya."
Freedom House has its Annual Dinner and Silent Auction on November 11 and is hoping that someone will donate any manner of sports tickets (preferably for a University of Michigan team) for the auction. Tickets to the Michigan v. Wisconsin football game would be miraculous. B-ball tickets to basically any Michigan game would be amazing. Anything and everything helps, except Michigan State tickets; sorry -- it's a good cause, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
Here is information on the event: http://www.freedomhousedetroit.org/index.php
This short video about Freedom House has some technical issues but is still moving: http://www.freedomhousedetroit.org/watch-our-videos.php
If you want to donate tickets, please chime in or contact Alexa Stanard at [email protected].

In case you were wondering whether this place is legit, former standout center Gerald R. Ford should ease your fears. A recent press release from Freedom House:
Freedom House has been chosen by U of M's Ford School of Public Policy as the beneficiary of its annual charitable auction!

Do they take student tickets? This would be much better than just wasting my tickets when I can't make it to a game, and I'm sure the same thing goes for many other students as well. If we could get the word out to the student body, I'm sure this and other charities like it could collect possibly hundreds of tickets to the early and late season games that people would normally skip.

I could validate them myself before they get donated. If you are personally interested please contact me at [email protected] and we can make arrangements.
Great idea!

In case this excellent organization reaches its capacity for tickets to be auctioned off, any donor that would normally be left out can always consider donating their tickets to the Human Fund in care of profitgoblue . . .
