He had some seriously talented teams, especially those early 90's squads. Serious talent. Another of the Bo-era coaching legends has passed and will be missed.

Very sad news. He won the AFCA Coach Of The Year and the Bear Bryant Award at least once, I think, and in addition, and he was the SI Coach Of The Year in 1991. That's definitely not comprehensive for his accolades, I am sure. He was a MAC Coach Of The Year at Kent State too, and indeed, two of his players went on to have some decent coaching careers too - Nick Saban and Gary Pinkel.
He took Washington to 14 bowls, including six Rose Bowls. Excellent, excellent career. Condolences to his family, friends, and the Washington community.

As a former DC at Michigan, he'll always be a Michigan man. Though his legacy in college football will always be as the Dawgfather.

On those Michigan/Washington Rose Bowls. He was an incredible coach and was the first to really bring Pac Northwest football to the national forefront. He went 2-2 against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. He will be missed.

During those early '90's the Huskies wore the best uniforms they have ever worn. I wish they'd revert to them again. So classic.

It was a sad day when the went to the purple helmets and the rest of their uniform was reminded me of the Minnesota State Golden Eagles.
