OT: Domers Nat'l Championship Tee Shirt surfaces

As we know they make shirts for both teams in a championship so that it is available as soon as the game is over to sell to celebrating fans. Normally the loser shirts go to some developing country never to be seen but at least one ND shirt ended up in Pennsylvania.

I am posting this mainly because of my hatred for ND.

What I find especially

What I find especially curious is that they thought they had ANY chance against Bama.  I mean, no other team in the country would have won that game either.  So...why spend the money on dem shirts?

Imagine how

Imagine how gloriously awkward it would have been if they had won but didn't have shirts to celebrate. I would have paid to see that conversation take place.

well, to be fair

It's not like "Notre Dame," the institution spent the money. Addidas made that shirt, as I'm sure a handfull of other licensees did.  It's not that much outlay for a few thousand shirts to sell right away and the profit margin makes it completely worth it if the team does win.  How big of an underdog a particular team is doesn't factor into the equation.  After all, significant under dogs DO occassionally pull off the miracle, plus, can you imagine the fall out if ND had won and all of their fans at the game immediately went clamoring to buy official gear only to find out that Addidas didn't have enough faith in their team to have shirts and hats printed up?  *gulp*

Better to have them ready on the off chance you'll be able to sell a $3.00 shirt for $25.00 than NOT be prepared and face a disasterous PR problem.

Everyone remembers that Texas A&M beat them, right? And that LSU basically had them dead to rights? And Georgia for that matter?

I sure do remember...

but after what they did to us on week one, and seeing how we played ND a short time after, did you ever consider that ND had ANY chance in that game?  I know, I know...transitive property and all, but did you think for a minute that Saban wouldn't have that team ready to throttle ND?  I had absolutely no doubt in my mind...

I pretty much saw us get

I pretty much saw us get rolled by Bama, then basically shutdown ND. ND won because we graciously threw 4 picks on 4 pass attempts IIRC. I thought, unless Brian Kelly had some Lloyd-Carr-2008-Cap-One-Bowl Epiphany, that it was going to go poorly for them

Yes, but my prediction (and I

Yes, but my prediction (and I bet I'm not alone on this) is that those teams would have treated ND to a similar ass-kicking that Alabama gave them.  And, to be fair, they'd have likely beaten Michigan as well.  Sadly, the top SEC teams are a notch above most of the rest of the country right now.  We need to get there, and I cannot wait until it finally happens.

You do realize Alabama lost a game?

I thought they had a chance

Did I think ND would win, of course not.  But they won at Oklahoma, at USC, and whether or not the win against Stanford was controversial, they still played well enough to be in that position.  I thought they had a chance.

I'm pretty sure whomever they're liscenced with makes the shirts and then just sends them to Africa as a write off or something.

A couple of post-game additions:

uNDermanned

uNDerwhelming

It actually is a pretty sweet shirt, however.  If I were a ND fan, and we had won that game, I would have definitely purchased one.

Darren Rovell of ESPN tweeted the pic. It could be fake but I posted anyway because...well... I hate ND.

Before long we'll be seeing photos of kids in Uganda and Estonia

and Thailand and Bolivia wearing them, after Adidas quietly sells off the stock to third-party overseas wholesalers to recoup its investment.

Still Unfinished Business...

I can only assume this means that they will simply return to wearing that "Unfinished Business" shirt in South Bend for another season, or perhaps the next several seasons.

In a not at all shocking development, AL.com picked up on this - (LINK). The comment thread is an absolute train wreck, which you also might expect, and especially so after Auburn fans decided to unload in it as well. All the same, there are alternate T-shirt suggestions there as well - the addition of "uNDertide" was pretty funny, I thought. The other suggestion someone put forth was that ND could wear these and simply claim a championship, as it has worked for Alabama in the past.

Saw a guy in Chicago last week...

wearing an ND 2012 shirt with a big "UNDEFEATED" across the front.

Didn't get a chance to see if it was a false NC shirt or whether he was just dilusional.
