OT: Do you own something that you love but that most people would not appreciate?

Submitted by IUandUofM on
Not the greatest topic sentence, but this is what I mean ... one of my favorite things I own is the actual mask that Jack Black wore in the move Nacho Libre ... I love that movie, but more people than not think it was horrible and why on earth would I want Nacho's mask. My last trick will be getting my wife to let me frame it and hang it up somewhere other than the basement :)

A filthy old beat up neck pillow that I took on every mission when I was over in Iraq. Most people would probably just toss it, but there's some definite sentimental value.

I've collected Santa Cruz decks for years now, along with other various skate stuff by them. My wife doesn't get why I collect them but when the value on some is in the $1-$1500K range then she'll be thankful when I decide to sell them.

my autopsy table. (which makes an excellent buffet table I might add) Sadly my house is small, so it's been in the garage for a few years. also: My 70 piece flashlight collection. My antique bug lights, outboard motors, and chemistry paraphernalia. Oh, and my Dungeons& Dragons books . . . . My god, I'm a hoarder!

I love MgoBlog, as most of you know I spend a ton of time here. However I have no real close friends who are sports fans and therefore they don't understand my love affair with a website(especially if said website doesn't involve porn).

Absolutely. First thing that comes to mind: Come to think of it, most of the music equipment I own -- and most of the albums I own.

I love to light fireworks and have a Federal permit. I have a 1.3G explosives sticker 12"x12" it always invtes questions. It's worthless, but I love it. I also have a baseball card collection that my dad gave me circa 1934-35, with Hank Greenberg, and various other Tiger Hall of famers, and some prints including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Roger Hornsby and Walter Johnson. The wife wants me sell them, I don't think so. And lastly, an old worn out UM sweatshirt with just a plain embossed Maize MICHIGAN on it. You can't find them anymore like that, no logos.

My old Marantz model twenty-seven. Man I love that thing, it's even beautiful when it's off. No surround or other fancy gadgetry, just the basics pure and simple.

Ha. Not too long ago my grandfather opted to move out of his house following the passing of his wife. I of course helped, and when I saw his old stereo I asked why he had never upgraded (he did pretty well for himself in his day). He looked at me like I was retarded, he has the same pride for his Marantz too.

I have a small white brick. Half a brick, actually. When my ship went into the yards after our deployment, they opened up the boilers ("my" boiler, since I was the division officer for that engine room) for refurbishment, and I went inside and on the spot decided that I would never have a better souvenir opportunity then to grab one of the pieces of refractory brick that at some point over the months or years had fallen to the bottom of the firebox. I always wanted some piece of that engine room to take with me and still can't think of a better souvenir. chunkums, I love what you guys do on the ground, but until you get there, you're cargo!

I have a Liquid Metal putter. Only a few hundred were cast back in about 1998. Liquid Metal Golf went out of business shortly after. One of these days I'm going to add a rider to my homeowners policy, covering the mallet for $2,000. I know; they won't do it without something like "provenance" which is used to establish value for a work of art. But, then, that's what it is -- a fucking work of art.
