I'm guessing you haven't heard of the small forward position?
Larry Bird wasn't a big man? He averaged 10 rebounds per game over his entire career. The most important distinction is that he played FORWARD, not wing. I agree that he did play for the most part as a small forward. However, in the 1980s, the forward position was much less differentiated than it is now, with both forwards tending to play down low more. Bird probably wouldn't play the 3 as it's defined today. I would certainly consider him to be a big man.

Westbrook is such a garbage shooter. Half of those shots weren't even going to fall to begin with, don't know why he takes them. Nevertheless, have to agree Dirk is the best 7 ft. shooter.
Some people seem to think Westbrook is a bad decision-maker or just not a natural point. I think it goes deeper than that. This kid is a glory hound who is trying to wrestle the team away from Durant.
They'd really be better off if they traded him. He has great value.
But I think Im rooting for Dallas to win. Well, first things first, anybody but Miami. After that, Go Dallas!
I'm rooting for Jason Kidd. I have already seen John Stockton have a lengthy career without winning a championship. I couldn't stand to see it happen again.

I don't think OKC can win it this year. Dallas, Chicago, and Miami (barely) have the edge in a seven game series. What they need is a true, distributing point guard. In the same way Iverson needed to be moved off the point to see his productivity really improve, Westbrook needs to move to the 2 and Durant to the 3. And since OKC will be picking late in the first round, what better pick than a 6'4" assist assassin like Darius to distribute between Westbrook, Durant, and Ibaka who will be there waiting for them!? Morris's biggest knock against him is his lack of an outside shot, but who needs it when you're playing with prolific scorers like Durant and Westbrook!? All you have to do is pass, baby!
nbadraft.net has him going literally one spot ahead of OKC to the Rockets. This could happen, folks. Imagine a Morris, Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka, Perkins starting five for the Zombie Sonics. Sam Presti has to realize this is a perfect move.

I still say Seguin had the performance of the night.
Seguin with 3 goals and 3 assists in 2 games! He should have been playing over Paille, Thornton and/or Campbell this whole time. At the very least they should have given him a chance on the power play to shake things up. It's not like he could have made it any worse. I can't stand Claude Julien. Did you know after Seguin's goal in game 1 he sat him for 15 minutes of ice time? He is way too stubborn and stodgy. I want him fired no matter how this playoff run ends up. They are performing well despite the coach.
While I agree that they've probably not utilized him as much as they should, I think that the fact that he's been benched, kept out, and all that has helped with his development as a player. It's made him responsible. It's sent the message to him that he needs to have quality minutes when he's on the ice, so he's had to focus on working on the important things like making sure he fulfills all his defensive responsibilities. The goals were obviously impressive, but I really was more satisfied with his performance in the way he would swing around and help out defensively. He was also more physical, though his hits weren't that great, which I think he can incorporate into his game. Seguin is a smart kid who understands how to develop and how to get better. I love the kid's maturity level. It's been great to see him contribute. Hopefully he can keep it up, though I don't think we'll need as much offense with Bergeron's impending return.
I understand Claude's rationale for keeping Seguin out of the lineup was because he's a rookie that has been really sketchy in the defensive end all year. Claude's a defensive minded type of coach so even though I wanted to see Seguin get the playoff experience I could understand why he was passed over. In the long run it might have helped him rest up from his long rookie season and he certainly looks fresh now.
However, that doesn't excuse his absence from the power play which was a -1 after the Montreal series and not any better in the Philly series.
I'm also impressed with the kid's maturity. He handled himself really well in the presser last night with all the questions about his lack of playing time and whatnot.
I'm not a fan of Claude. I think he's mishandled the team in many ways. However, if he gets us to the Stanley Cup and wins it for us, I will be significantly less unhappy with him.
Seguin impressed me from the start. If you look at his pre-draft interviews, he showed that maturity and that desire to get better. That's why I liked him more than Hall from the start.
If the Bruins manage to win a Cup I'll happily admit I have been wrong about Claude the last few years.
Gotta say so far, OKC and their 2-man game (3 if Harden shows up) have been incredible to watch. They outgunned us in the semis mostly because Westbrook limited himself to only 2 OMG I GOT THIS games out of the 7, and the great D on Durant just can't be done 4 games out of 7. KD is as pure a scorer as I've seen since Jordan a dozen years ago and it really doesn't matter who guards him.
I just know that if I had a rooting interest any more, Dirk's off-balance one-foot maybe-sometimes-fadeaway game would absolutely infuriate me. I'd take Dallas in 6 but this is gonna be a fun one to watch. If Nowitzki keeps this kind of shooting up, it'll be over sooner. At this point... anyone but Miami.
Dirk's one-footed fadeaway is absolutely unstoppable. The guy in general is playing such amazing basketball right now. So. Locked. In.
People giving Westbrook a hard time need to remember he's young and that you can't teach his ability to teleport down the court on a fast break. The idea of trading him is absolutely absurd.
I want Dallas to win this over Miami and I want someone to knock Dwyane Wade down HARD at least once in the finals.
Great effort by Dirk but I think OKC was running the 3-3-5. I would think OKC starts collapsing on Dirk and let Collison play him more and taking their chances with Bibby taking the three.
That's Jason Kidd, not Bibby. Jason Kidd has the third most made 3-pointers in NBA history.
These coaches aren't idiots. Dallas is spacing the floor beautifully and changing up where Dirk gets the ball consistently. It's not trivial to double Dirk right now. I'm sure they'll come up at him with something different but I'm not sure it will work.
They definitely need to stop fouling him when he doesn't even have the ball.
