Did someone really downvote this? Heartless Bastards!

I always thought Enemy of the State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman was underrated. It's a little dated now, but it really made you think about Big Brother and government survelliance.

Hi, I read the front page of Yahoo/CNN/Gawker etc. but I still thought this needed to be shared here.

In other news they are doing a terrible job casting the Hunger Games movies even though the books were a rather good read and i'm sure insert: random celeb flashed some nipple/beaver somewhere.

(unlike other OT topics that at least lend themselves to a good discussion this one will delve into: I liked Top Gun or Tom Cruise=Scientology)

Aside from the films that have already been mentioned, I believe Tony Scott also worked with his brother as the executive producer of "Numbers", at least for the last few seasons, as well as "The Good Wife".

An interesting note about "Man On Fire" - it was almost the second film that Tony Scott Scott directed (he had wanted to turn the book into a film since the 80s), but at the time, few people thought that he was experienced enough given the performance at the box office of the later-cult classic "The Hunger". The 2004 version was a great movie (Scott's version), I thought.

I always saw Tony Scott as typically overlooked by critics and rather underrated. Very bummed to hear this.

I loved the Hunger.  Bowie, Sarandon and Deneuve.  It is certainly a classic, except for the last scene with the screaming Isis/vampire thing, seemed a little too camp for me.

In all of these things, you just have to hope the family is dealing with it well.

He worked a lot with Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson...two producers that embodied everything that I hate about Hollywood movies.

I liked Crimson Tide. True Romance maintained enough of Tarantino's script to be entertaining.

Still...sorry to hear of his passing.

So sad...

I never put 2-and-2 together that he and Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster and Prometheus) were brothers. Between the two of them, some AMAZING films.

With that said, this is terrible news. Tony Scott was absolutely brilliant...he had awesome chemistry with my favorite actor of all-time, Denzel. Man on Fire is an all-time classic. Enemy of the State is grossly underrated.

Sad, sad, news. As a movie lover, I've always enjoyed Tony Scott's work, he'll be missed. May he truly rest in peace.

The Vincent Thomas is a suspension bridge in Long Beach area.

Given the traffic on the 110/710 artery, if someone parked on this bridge, scaled the 10 foot protection fence and then jumpedinto the water means that several person would have witnessed this event, not to mention doc workers and boats below.  Horrible.

Here's a guy on the face of things that is not only a 1%er in money, but in success in his respective industry.  And it seems he still has family, and everything going for him. He's not even washed up in the industry, "stuck" retired on his millions. But in his minds things were so bad taking a long dive off a high bridge seemed like the only solution to his problems. You just really never know.

Yes.  Under those circumstances, I can not blame anyone for not wanting to waste away with cancer.  I saw what happened to my father in his 16 month battle with esophegeal cancer and it was pretty devastating.

That said, it seems a bit flamboyant and dramatic to do it in that manner.  These days, there are people who you can hire to have that done quietly...so I dont understand the bridge bit.
