OT- Digital SLR

OK, so im looking at buying a digital SLR camera. I was looking at Nikon D5000 or Canon Rebel T1i. I am a fairly novice photographer. Took a few photo classes in high school but nothing since. Just looking for any advice. Anyone own either? Are they worth the price for live view and video. Not trying to start a canon/nikon fanboy flameware here, just any helpful tips. Thanks
