OT: Did you have to spend the Holidays with family/friends that are rival fans?
December 25th, 2014 at 10:51 PM ^
Nope, I'm Jewish.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:54 AM ^
Not that it applies to me, but seems appropriate.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:51 PM ^
I'm a scientologist.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:59 PM ^
So your friends and family have "disappeared?"
December 25th, 2014 at 11:01 PM ^
My uncle Vincent Vega got me into his church. I've been with Xenu ever since.
December 26th, 2014 at 6:29 PM ^
I spent it with my cousin who is a current OSU student. However, he doesn't like the football team and has only been to a couple games in his entire time there.

Same here. I spent the holiday with the people that brainwashed me to be Maize and Blue. It was awesome.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:56 PM ^
Nope, I'm a deaf mute.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Uncle Jack told us that next week should be a positive week.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Nah, I don't actually live on planet Earth.

Very little talk about sports. My grandpa asked who Michigan is hiring. The family members who read this blog said Harbaugh. My dad said no way based on what his dentist said.

Nope, our immediate family is all Michigan. My husband's extended family had some Spartan fans but we see them at 4th of July now, not Christmas. No Buckeyes anywhere in our families. Thank goodness!
We had a nice discussion about renewing our tickets, Harbaugh, and the future.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:57 PM ^
No, I'm actually robot
December 25th, 2014 at 10:57 PM ^
All Michigan
December 25th, 2014 at 10:58 PM ^
I've got a gaggle of Sparties in the extended family, but they're (mostly) pretty OK about it. They all grew up Michigan fans before they ended up in East Lansing. It could be worse.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:05 PM ^
That's nice. Only one Sparty on my side. He grew up a Michigan fan and his 3 siblings graduated from M. He applied but didn't get accepted so he went to MSU. He's still a Michigan fan at heart.

Wow, I thought it would've been hard if I hadn't gotten into Michigan. Can't really blame that poor relative.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:58 PM ^
Merry Christmas
December 25th, 2014 at 11:01 PM ^
And apparently some mention of Hanukkah is warranted based on the 1st comment.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:02 PM ^
And a level 10 lazer lotus ceremony for me, jerk.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:38 PM ^
Sorry, poorly worded. I thought after the 1st comment said they didn't have Christmas dinner we should be more inclusive.
December 25th, 2014 at 10:59 PM ^
I fight vampires.

I live in columbus but I traveled back home for the holidays and my immediate family doesn't have a strong interest either way. The girlfriends family and parents though are from columbus so going to their family gatherings around the holidays is hell.

Yeah, that's got to be rough. I'm guessing she's one heck of a girl if you're willing to tolerate that.

I spent Christmas in Ann Arbor with my 100% blue-blooded Michigan family. Though the only thing we discussed about sports at all was one comment about "Hey, do you want to get together and watch Michigan on the 1st? Oh, that's right..." and then the one "So, Tuesday, eh?"
December 25th, 2014 at 11:03 PM ^
Unless I have non-relations over (I do have Spartan, Buckeye, Irish, etc... friends), then this is never really an issue for me. My family is all Michigan and my wife's family is not really into sports, so my wife's family will basically just sit there and listen to my family bitch about the season and talk about how nice it would be to land Jim Harbaugh. I should say that this is in fact what has happened in fits and spurts from last Friday to earlier today.

December 25th, 2014 at 11:06 PM ^
at the Clippers and Warriors game wearing my M Football hoodie and some Sparty twat said "fuck you" to me. I'm gonna kick his crutches if I see him again
December 25th, 2014 at 11:08 PM ^
And they swear up and down that Harbaugh is not coming, Ive kept quiet with a coy smile the whole day. They know whats coming and they are already making excuses, its so sparty and its hilRious...
December 25th, 2014 at 11:10 PM ^

I live in 99% Buckeye ville and just came from a Christmas party. Good people and even though they are as die hard Buckeye as you can get they've repeatedly made the comment that Ohio and the Big Ten is only good and recognized when both Ohio and Michigan are good and dominant for the conference as the Big Ten is typically only recognized and signifcant whey they're both good. They didn't mind the potential Harbaugh hire for the above reason.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:10 PM ^
would be dangerous business at one of our family gatherings. five generations of michigan grads, a few of us played contact sports there, and none of us are shy. my mgobride's family are out west and generally support michigan b/c of their affinity for me (go figure).
worst comes to worst i send my 5 sons after the trash talker and he'll be a bit busy after that...
December 25th, 2014 at 11:10 PM ^
Visiitng my elderly father in Florida and he was wearing a Michigan sweatshirt while we were sitting outside at a restaurant. An older couple in their 60's wearing matching Michigan State sweatshirts walked by our table and said something to the effect of "Michigan sucks" and then chuckled as they passed. Pretty low moment for Sparty.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:44 PM ^
when I pass strangers who have Sparty gsrb on, my invariable comment to them is: "michigan State, huh, its a good alternative if you cant get into a good school."

December 26th, 2014 at 8:50 AM ^
My father's pretty old so it was like hitting a guy who couldn't hit back. And I hope you're not doing that well into your 60's. Totally bad form.
December 26th, 2014 at 12:32 PM ^
and i mean never. however, if a sparty gets snotty with me i always tell 'em, 'hey, sorry about those SAT scores'.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:20 PM ^
I live in Ohio, so every trip home from school (especially Thanksgiving leading up to the game) is amusing. When I'm home I rarely leave the house without sporting some sort of Michigan apparel
