OT: Did you get a HS and/or college class ring?

Submitted by oriental andrew on

User mgobleu's comment in the Big Ten basketbally championship ring thread (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/michigan-basketball-2012-big-ten-championship-ring) got me to thinking - did you guys and gals get class rings when you graduated HS and/or college?

Honestly, I don't remember if many people in my HS class got rings, but I did not.

I did, however, get an awesome unique super-special mystical-powered M-emblazoned class ring when I graduated from Michigan (thanks, Jostens!).  I used to wear it pretty often the first couple of years out of school, but haven't in a long time.  I'm still glad I got it, but don't wear it.  Don't regret not getting a HS class ring.  School colors were green and white, so that actually sorta worked out...  ;)

Also never bothered getting a ring when I graduated from business school.  Do people get rings upon completing their graduate degrees, too?

yes and yes.  Did not get one for my masters degree.

The HS ring I think I wore only for some time during my senior year in HS, and for a few special occasions when  I wanted to look  fancy (meaning suit and tie).

As for college I did get a Michigan ring, which I will wear sometimes if the mood strikes, or during special occasions.

Sort of regret the HS ring since I never wear it, although it does have some sentimental value.

The college ring I  like, but I have short chunky hands which require a large ring to fit, and so the ring looks extra big on my short chunky fingers.

Someone above mentioned getting the signet style ring with the UM Seal on it, that's probably really the way to go IMO, it's a college ring but it won't be seen as ostentatious.

Got a HS ring.  Gave it to my girlfriend at the time.  She lost it.  Got rid of her later.

Got a Michigan ring.  Thought it was cool for about 2 weeks.  Put it away.  Thought I lost it.  Just found it about a week ago.  Put it right back where I found it.  It's cool and all, but I'm not much for wearing jewelry of any kind.  A few weeks before the wedding I tried to talk my wife into me not wearing my wedding ring all the time......whoa nelly.

I did because I went to the Air Force Academy. Very, very few (I'm talking like 2 cadets out of a class of 1,000 or so) didn't get them. As a matter of fact, if you didn't get one, the Commandant of Cadets (a Brigadier General) would call you into his/her office and ask you why you are not getting one...so, yea...not the kind of attention you want from that particular individual. Additionally, there is an event at the end of your junior year called 'Ring Dance' where you invite a date to and get all fancy-shmancied up for to receive your class ring. It's a pretty big event...probably the second most important event of your Academy career next to graduation. It's a pretty good time.

I got a high school class ring, but my weight fluctuates so much that I had it resized like three times. Got tired of it so I never wear it anymore. Waste of money.
