OT Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers Game 6 open thread

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

We're getting this one started early as the Tigers need to win tonight against the Rangers.  This gives us something else to talk about other than the football game today.

Oh Mylanta! I don't watch whole games of baseball during the regular season, too long for me and I usually have other things going on, but man are they tension filled! As soon as this thread went up my stomach started folding upon itself.

I think Scherzer gives us a good chance to win, hopefully the bats can make contact and get us some runs tonight.

we need to get people on base and move them instead of striking out.... the faster we jump on hollond the quicker we get to there pen which isnt all that great... this game is easily winable

To pick up our spirits.  Well, I'm consuming spirits so no concern there.

Max needs to pitch his best game of the season.  He has great stuff and it will be displayed if he is on his game. OTOH, he has not been on that game frequently this year.

The batters need to be patient in that small park.  If the Tigers can hit four homeruns in one game in Comerica, then they should easily exceed that inwhateverthefuckingnameofthatdouchebagtexasstadiumiscalled in tonight's game.

I like our chances with Scherzer tonight, although the offense will have to get him some run support for it to be worth it. The Tigers need to get to Holland early and get a lead, something we've rarely held in this series. If we can get 7 innings and less than 3 runs from Scherzer, we should be in a position to win.

Also, the Red Wings are on tonight, going for the Mike Illitch exacta. I might go get a Hot and Ready.

I think we can definitely do this. I wouldn't want anybody else on the team besides JV, Scherzer, and Fister pitching 3 must win games. JV took care of Game 1, and now it's up to our other 2 guys. As long as we can keep up this newfound offensive production I think we'll be good.

The good news is the bullpen should be good to go, Scherzer is good, but is a strikeout pitcher (meaning he will throw more pitches on average than a pitcher who pitches to contact, therefore, he will likely tire quicker).

We are living on the long ball the past few games.  I am pretty confident in our pitching for the next few games.  The offense is the question mark and it's looking good so far in this game.

FWIW I didn't get much satisfaction out of the game today.  I was too disgusted by our dirty, thuggish play (still am actually), and particularly Gholston, who should be dismissed IMHE, not so much for the punch, but for the late hit and helmet twisting on Denard (arguably a criminal act).  (But that's a separate thread, and I should stay on topic.)

It's funny - you'd think consecutive wins over OSU and M would be great for an MSU grad, but neither did much for me.

Dammit - hopefully Scherzer can get out of this.

Dammit.

I know we like to group all Spartan fans together as intolerable and thuggish, but I have respect for you by feeling the way you feel.  I know if Michigan had a player that did that helmet twisting, I would want him booted from the team, no matter how big a contributor he was.  I thank you for your comments and contribution.

Well said, and I respect Senor Demos greatly.

Though I wish the ratio of ThisGuys to ThatGuys was greater.  I've been to games at Spartan Stadium where my team has won, games when my team has lost, and games in which my team didn't even play.  And I always, ALWAYS leave feeling worse about humanity.

Are we getting squeezed by the home plate ump? Not on the last one to Cruz which was way out of the zone but it looks like some borderline calls are going against us (like the one inside to Jackson for called strike 3).

just what we need. bases loaded. he was out but santiago shoulda gone to first anyways

another example of cabrera being too aggressive leaving first.

It should be 2-3 rangers still. cruz went on, the first base ump was wrong, as was the call at second base.

I've followed this sight for years and finally had to make an account because of all this ridiculousness today. wow.
